Concerto in D (Stravinsky)

Not to be confused with Stravinsky's Violin Concerto in D

Igor Stravinsky's Concerto in D (Basler) for string orchestra was composed in response to a 1946 commission from Paul Sacher to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Basel Chamber Orchestra (Basler Kammerorchester, BKO). It can also be encountered with the Solfege notation: Concerto in Re.

It premiered on January 27, 1947 in Basel with the Basel Chamber Orchestra conducted by Paul Sacher.

One of the work's most interesting traits is the wavering from D major key to D minor.

The concerto has been choreographed a number of times to be a Ballet.
