Conacre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Conacre (a corruption of corn-acre), in Ireland, is a system of letting land, mostly in small patches, and usually for the growth of potatoes as a kind of return instead of wages. One third of agricultural land in Northern Ireland is let as Conacre. Some historians believe that it was one of the factors responsible for the Great Irish Famine.
