Wikipedia talk:Community noticeboard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So what do people think of this? A good idea? (The irony here is, I could have posted a link to this discussion on a Community noticeboard page...) Majorly (talk) 15:09, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I think its fine. Noble cause indeed. Rudget (Help?) 15:28, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
There is no "new section" or "+" tab though.. Rudget (Help?) 15:32, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
It can easily be added in time. I'd like there to be general agreement on making this before making the page look really fancy, with headers and special formatting etc. Majorly (talk) 15:34, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I have wanted to say things before, that no other noticeboard or page is relevant to. This place fills that gap well. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:31, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Nice job, Majorly. Definitely something useful. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:45, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Do we need more splintering of discussion areas? How would this be different from the Village Pump, more of a social networking spot? RxS (talk) 16:19, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Er, we have several village pumps and not one is for posting general notices. Unless you count the miscellaneous one, which I don't. This page can be specifically for general community issues, that are not admin related. Majorly (talk) 16:24, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Er? Yes, we do have several VPs, I think we all know that thanks. What is a general community issue? One that can't go on any of the village pumps, and why do you not count WP:VPM? None of those are admin related. RxS (talk) 16:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
See my reply on the page to Jehochman. Majorly (talk) 16:35, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Village pump

How is this different from the boards at WP:PUMP? Jehochman Talk 15:45, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

They are more specific to the community - that is, it's for general notices. Say you had an announcement to make. For example, you'd like to tell people there was a meetup happening in your city. Where could you post this? Not the admin noticeboard, it's nothing to do with admins. Not the incidents board, it's not an incident. Not the village pump - which pump could you possibly post it in, other than miscellaneous? A "miscellaneous" board is far too general. On Meta-wiki we have meta:Meta:Babel as our community noticeboard. On Simple English Wikipedia, we have simple:Wikipedia:Simple talk. Posting such things on an "everything else" village pump seems a bit unnecessary, when a board specifically for posting announcements that affect everyone can be used. [edit] Community bulletin board

How is your proposal different from Wikipedia's existing notice board: Template:Announcements/Community bulletin board —Preceding unsigned comment added by The Transhumanist (talkcontribs)

It's not a template. It's not limited. You don't have to post it in a particular section, and people can comment and ask questions on items posted if they wish. Majorly (talk) 16:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sarcasm

Oh good, I'd been hoping someone would create yet another noticeboard, especially one that completely overlaps with WP:PUMP. My watchlist was looking a bit empty with only a gazillion other noticeboards on it. This one really helps. ➨ REDVEЯS is always ready to dynamically make tea 22:19, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
