[edit] Mission statement

The mission of the committee is defend the rights of Wikipedia contributors to:

be aware of imporant policy discussion and
participate in decision making without special technical means.

While GFD license may guarantee that the content of Wikipedia remains free, provided copyright or enforcement agency rights are not transferred to the Wikipedia or Wikimedia Foundation, we observe that contributor's rights are not well respected vis a vis:

to have Wikipedia websites they like and
to participate in the discussion of administration policies.

For example, the mailing list, while technically available, is practically only used by those who have enough will and time to keep up with high traffic of posts every day. Those who contribute occasionally often show surprise when new policies are made which they are unaware of and therefore feel their voice have been ignored.

We therefore speak out to ensure that Wikipedians are aware of important policy discussion and the voices of Wikipedians are heard. We understand that some people feel uncomfortable with discussion via mails or Internet Relay Chat, and it is fine with us. However, we ask that everyone make an effort to ensure that Wikipedians are made aware of important discussions and decisions.

We also stress that we are not interested in accusing particular individuals at all but only create some incentives for them to be aware of rights of wikipedians to know what is going on.

[edit] Current issues

  • The policy discussion and decision making currently made on mailing list must take in the place of Wikipedia contributors, namely wikipedia.org.
