My edit seemed perfectly valid, I don't see why it was changed. From the link you provided in the message, I fail to see how I *removed* information from the page. I added to it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.18.65.207 (talk • contribs)

Userpage stuff.
Please refrain from removing anything on my userpage unless a) it violates policy (and even then, I'd appreciate a message on my talk page first, it is just common courtesy) or b) I agree that it needs removing.
While the fake new messages bar may be annoying by some, I like it and it does not in any way violate policy. Please ask before removing things; you know as well as I do that such edits may be classed as vandalism.
Thank you. — Nathan (talk) / 14:34, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- How is that vandalism? Isn't it more of a content dispute? Computerjoe's talk 14:36, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- A content dispute? About the content of a userpage? I don't think discussions about what someone has on their talk page have ever been called 'content disputes', but I may be wrong. There are some guidelines on the page about userpages. Nathan is definitely not the only one with such a message, and it would probably be a better idea to bring it up for discussion in general somewhere than to remove it from someone's userpage without discussion (and yeah, these messages annoy me a great deal as well, but that's another issue :)). --JoanneB 16:58, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

VP
I could really use some help. I really like VP, I have 1.2.2 but it's almost to the point I want to stop using it because:
- I can't get an answer to User_talk:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs#VandalismLog
- Now more than half the time when I start it, it almost fully loads and then closes for no apparent reason
- Daniel has several times, specifically and just one example User_talk:AmiDaniel/VP/suggestions#Set_RC_limit_.28Default_edit_count.29, that he'd make a simple fix in a few days and then still hasn't done it
Any help would be appreciated. Rlevse 02:28, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I don't know. On July 13th, I think, VP 1.3 will be released - many bugs will be fixed then. Computerjoe's talk 07:22, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'll wait til then (1 day?) and if needed, I'll try to get him to answer me. Thanks.Rlevse 09:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello Computerjoe/Archive 6, and thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). Hi Computerjoe! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. - Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
- Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
- Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
- General niceness: at the judges' discretion
Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

This is probably not possible. I'll have to research it more. In general, we make images off the site free for private, non-commercial use. This is to prevent people from downloading the images from the site and using them in a subscription based web site. In other words, making money off of images they didn't not create nor had the means to create.
In doing a first reading of GFDL, it appears that the images are totally free which means they can be used commercially without paying a royalty to the person who spent time and effort creating the image.
As for the hurricane track images, it might be a no-brainer since almost anyone could create these images with the raw track data and something like Photoshop.
But I'll have to research this a bit further.

Hey Joe, what's your problem!!!!!
Hey Joe, what's your problem. Maybe you're a new-comer to wikipedia and don't know taht sometimes people start a page and then need to get a bit of text from another page to help take it forward. It is generally considered very gauche to propose a page for speedy deletion just 1 minute after it has been started. Perhaps you should spend a little bit more time in the sand box, before winding people up, eh.Harrypotter 20:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I am sorry if you found my incisive wit a bit to petulant. Thanks for the info about removing speedy-del tags. I'm not really able to draft articles before posting them, and this should not be a problem if people wait to see if more is coming.

Your Comment on Crisspy's RfA
You stated "WP:SNOWBALL please oppose". You may want to reword that because that could be interpreted as a request for others to oppose Crisspy's RfA (which obviously would not be a nice thing to do). I know that was not what you meant (the please probably goes with the "WP:SNOWBALL" as part of a request for someone to close the nomination before it goes out of control), but it could be interpreted that way. -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 18:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Problem with removing a personal opinion in Adria article
Since it cannot be proved that the Prior spoke in Latin, it cannot be proved that Tomin's words are a translation. There is no evidence in the show to support that other than the fact that the Latin words and Tomin's words are the same. However, as it was specified it cannot be stated that that language was Latin, it cannot be stated that Tomin translated the Prior's words. He is more likely to have said a personal phrase. Despite this, an editor refuses to remove the Tomin's "translation". Using the talk page does not seem to have practical results.89.32.1.82 19:37, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have been lenient with you, i have helped you i have not reported you. I even changed words so things where more clearer for you. Matthew Fenton (contribs) 19:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
changed words? how can it can be said that the Prior's words indicate that Adria posseses a tremendous amount of knowledge if u cannot be sure of their meaning? how can it be stated that the Prior's words announce her divine and human nature if u cannot be sure of their meaning? you refuse to remove this statements and the Prior's words should be also removed since they are meaningless thus yet to ramble on about your lenity and tolerance. please spare me!!89.32.1.82 19:56, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Seems that "fair" editor finally made the edits, edits he forbade me to do under the motivation of vandalism. I'm grateful you offered to "vandalize" the page for me, editor Fenton.89.32.1.82 20:10, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof Approval Hold?
Hey, is there any reason I was moved to the approval holds list on the VandalProof registration page (almost immediately, for that matter)? While I do have way too many WP namespace edits (I'm really trying to cut back on that), I do have almost 600 mainspace edits. If it's the Acadamenorth thing, that dispute has been settled. --Coredesat talk. ^_^ 14:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Chris Prillo
Chris Prillo has written about in accuracies in the Wikipedia on his sites and this has inspired some readers of his to keep reinserting the incorrect name of his college. user 4.21.120.135 knew he was inserting false information since he read about it on Chris's blog recently. Want to ask your advice on a prod/merge/redirect situation
There is a long article called AppleSearch. Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the Biography WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of biographies.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure tips outlines some things to include.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every biography article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! plange 21:50, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey Computerjoe, I just saw that you decided to leave Concordia, and I wanted to give you a bit of support. You had a lot of hard times with Community Justice and then Concordia, but I was always impressed that you stuck with it the whole time. You've helped out a lot of people, and I'm sure they appreciate it. Best of luck around the rest of Wikipedia, -- Natalya 15:17, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Please don't snowball keep AfDs. WP:SNOW has no real weight, and it only ends up being divisive. Furthermore, to cite precedents is entirely against out no binding decisions guideline. This article meets no speedy keep criteria, so please reconsider your close and others like it for the future. --badlydrawnjeff talk 10:56, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was waiting to see how long this would take :P Frankly, feel free to revert my closure. For a start, I am not an admin and I was kinda pushing it. However, this article had a snowball's chance of getting deleted, and it seemed somewhat pointless to keep it on AfD. Computerjoe's talk 11:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Heyo, Steve Caruso here. There is a Request for assistance by MathStatWoman (talk) on Daniel H. Wagner, Associates, Marion Cohen, Roberta Wenocur, Elaine Zanutto, User: MxM Peace. Would you be willing to take their case? If you will, please leave a note and sign under the entry on WP:AMARQ and change "(pending)" in the heading to "(open)." When you're finished with the case, set it to "(closed)". If you're not able to take the case, please leave me a message on my talk page so I can continue searching for a willing Advocate. Many thanks! This case looks like it is going to be a bit sensitive as the user, MathStatWoman appears to be knowledgeable but does not have very much experience editing articles or using the software (under 400 edits since mid-December last year). She may need to be walked through some Policy so that she can better understand it. אמר Steve Caruso (desk/AMA) 15:06, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

If you are on still on, please approve me for VandalProof. I was accidenally removed by another editor, and I had to readd my username to the list. Hello32020 12:49, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Splendid new idea
Thank you for your timely suggestion. Here we go: the next time somebody (about whom I shall of course AGF) deletes a wodge of an article and replaces it with "You're fucking gay", I shall consider writing on his (somehow I think of all these IPs as male) talk page no mention of "moronic" but on the contrary: "Certain that you are a homo sapiens, [blah blah blah]".
You write: This editor uses Mozilla Firefox to edit the Wikipedia on Windows XP, or sometimes if he feels like it Windows Vista! Well, if that's your thing. Me, I'm delighted to be shot of MS. I've just installed Kubuntu. -- Hoary 14:43, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Approved to use Vandalproof?
It appears that you have approved me (and a large number of others) to use Vandalproof but Vandalproof appears not to recognise that I'm approved. When you approved myself it appears that Vandalproof ran out of space in the edit summary [3] and I've also not received a message on my talk page. Looking at a packet trace the last 500 edit history entries are the only page VP is accessing on startup so I'm wondering whether this truncation is causing approvals to possibly not be recognized? --Sully 17:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
HI there
I have a question. You did not approv my request to use VP earlier, i m wondering as I noticed later that in order to get VP approval a editor must have atleast 250 edits counts, at the time I had less then 250 edits counts, now I want to know can I apply again ? with more then 250 edits counts. pls reply phippi46 13:53, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

V for Vendetta
How can comparing the simialrities between the BNP and the right wing facist party in V be POV?(Halbared 17:28, 6 September 2006 (UTC))

- I would conccur...but I am not comapring the Nazis to the BNP (though know knows what they could grow to), but that the party in the book/film has it's origins in the British Nationalist Party, as well as the NAZIs. The book was written in the early 80's. We were coming out of the 70's which was a huge time for the BNP and the 'bovver boot' brigrade. Thank you and help please
Thank you for commenting that I need not leave Wikipedia, and inviting me to contribute again, but this is what happened, and I am intimidated and frustrated:
I had truly planned to stop editing Wikipedia. Yet due to some kind words and encouragement from Wikipedians like you, I tried, timidly, to return.
This is what transpired: I always sign in, even when reading articles. I had been reading articles on the Riemann hypothesis and the zeta function, when I was alerted that there were messages on my talk page. There were several messages advising me not to stop editing and an offer to discuss the content of proposed new articles with other editors. Therefore, I decided to attempt to contribute again.
The response was that User: Chris53516 vandalized my discussion/talk page and sent me at least two messages (and I quote) that I was guilty of "dishonesty" (this was posted on a vandalized version of my discussion/talk page) and was a "liar" (posted on User: Chris53516's own page), simply because I had decided to contribute to Wikipedia again.
Moreover, I am not a "sockpuppet" nor a "sockpuppet master". I always sign in, and I always use the same user name. I do not at all appreciate this nomenclature on my user page; it is an insult, implying that I am using underhanded, sneaky means of editing via aliases. I do not do so. I share a computer and a network. Strangely, I have been accused of being the "sockpuppet" of people who have different IP addresses, whom I have never met. On Wikipedia, is it standard to be assumed guilty without proof? to be assumed guilty until proven innocent? to be assumed guilty without an attempt to be proven innocent?
Hence, it seems, that I am truly disliked on Wikipedia and that the way to settle disputes, for me at least, is to leave. If you think otherwise, look at what happened to my discussion/talk page, due to User: Chris53516 who was aided by User: Chan-Ho Suh in restoring my talk/discussion page. This is ironic since User: Chris53516 urges Wikipedians to "be nice". Hence, in my attempt to contribute to Wikipedia again, I have confirmation that it is indeed an unpleasant and frustrating experience, and ruled by those who have a different concept of "being nice".
However, I would like answers to my questions above, so I truly understand how Wikipedia operates.
To review and summarize, the questions I would like answered are these:
1. Should I not sign in when reading other articles, so that I do not see alerts that I have messages?
2. If it is acceptable for me to sign in when reading other articles, is it all right for me to re-join Wikipedia, even after I thought I would stop editing, after having been encouraged to do so by other Wikipedians?
3. If it is indeed acceptable for me to decide to edit again, am I really "dishonest" and a "liar" as per User: Chris53516?
4. Is it appropriate for Wikipedians such as User: Chris53516 and User: Chan-Ho Suh and others (anonymous) to vandalize my discussion/talk page by deleting favorable comments while adding their own verbiage including terms that, in my opinion, are insulting and, moreover, false?
5. Why am I being accused of "sockpuppetry" when it is not true, and cannot be proven simply because it is not true?
6. Why is the accusation of "sockpuppetry" displayed on my User page? I really do not appreciate this, especially since it is a false accusation.
7. What does "be nice" mean on Wikipedia, as User: Chris53516 recommends ? Does it include calling another Wikipedian "dishonest", someone who intends to "deceive", and a "liar" if that Wikipedian decides to return to Wikipedia and attempt to communicate with others via talk, or to edit an article?
8. Why had so many of my articles been deleted? So many of my edits reverted? Even when I supplied citations? (Some of the articles I started became quite lengthy, although they were intended to be concise, simply because of so many requests to establish importance of the subject, noteability, to provide more and more citations even after having supplied many, etc.)
9. If you do indeed answer my questions, and if I should respond to your answering me, shall I anticipate being called "liar", "dishonest", "sockpuppet" that I "deceive", etc (by other Wikipedians, of course, not by you!) Again, thank you.
But now you might have an idea why (a) I had decided to leave Wikipedia, and (b) was concerned about trying to re-join and edit again.
I suspect that this experience that I have had on Wikipedia has affected other Wikipedians, probably who are people with valuable information to contribute, but who have decided to stop creating articles or to edit because of similar experiences. This would lead to an incomplete and inconsistent encyclopedia, which is not what Wikipedia should be.
Sorry for the long message, but Wikipedia is an internet phenomenon, and these issues are important, to me and to others, including students in university, grade school, and high school.
Moreover, I had wanted to use my time to contribute actual content and learning more about the markup language: articles about topics in maths and stats, bios of persons, and other topics that interest me; i.e., spend my time on useful endeavors for Wikipedia, not being involved with disagreements nor wasting time on matters such as these.
Thank you again. MathStatWoman 09:37, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

There are also a few related pages (WP:CASB, Wikipedia:Wikipedia:WikiProject countering anti-Serb bias/Logo and Wikipedia:Wikipedia:WikiProject countering anti-Serb bias/Recognising propaganda) which are non-controversial - if the central project stays, all should stay, if it goes they serve no purpose. Fair use rationale for Image:Maquis raider.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Maquis raider.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hi, Computerjoe, and thanks for your comments in my recent request for adminship, which succeeded with a final tally of 70/4/4. I hope I can live up to your expectations, and if there's ever anything you need, you know where to find me! --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 00:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC) |
