I have set up a quick vote, as a counciler, may I ask you voice your opinions. Thanks! Ian13/talk 14:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

You want to delete the deletion board! The irony is beond me ;) This is designed to be humourous, not offencive, POV pushing, or offencive in any way... Ian13/talk 11:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Award

Thanks! Oh, and good luck on your RFA; I didn't expect people would react so fiercely to one Wikiproject. I mean, seriously, how does your involvement in a sincere, good faith project make you a bad person? Mind boggling. Anyway, thanks again, and if I can ever help out, feel free to ask! :D Cheers, Master of Puppets That's hot. 17:03, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

Hey Joe, thanks for getting in touch. Personally I opposed partly because of your interaction with the mailing list, which didn't reveal the level of maturity I expect of an admin, and partly because of the various examples provided by Sean Black in his opposition rationale. I would certainly support a future RfA if your editing behaviour from now on shows those fears to be groundless (although, of course, your current RfA hasn't finished yet!). Cheers, --Nick Boalch\talk 20:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your request at the top of your RfA page

Hi Computerjoe. Regarding your concern that Oppose notes due to WP:CJ are not helpful, I can only say that this question has been asked repeatedly, and answered. For example, Osbus and Master of Puppets asked about it in the comments section, and I replied that I think the approach you've shown in founding/running WP:CJ is reasonable to use as an indicator of how you would do things as an administrator. Do you find that explanation unsatisfactory? SCZenz 21:54, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Image:Nuvola apps package wordprocessing.png Thank you for your recent vote on my RFA, regardless of how you voted. I appreciate all votes. I am going to wait until I have more edits in all namespaces. (And also improve answering impossible questions ;). Hopefully one day I will be more sucessful than it was looking, once I meet most user's voting standards. Again, thanks for your time! ~Linuxerist E/L/T 02:10, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal Proof

Thanks for approving me. I don't have several of the required files. I guess that means I should wait for the setup program for the current version? Good luck in your RfA. --Kchase02 (T) 01:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Test4im

Hi Joe, please consider using another template than the template {{Test4im-n}}. Message like that, especially on a dynamic IP, can be quite confusing to innocent users who see the template days or weeks later. Also, it makes every warning from that point on the same page look silly... I understand that there are situations where you'd like to use a template like this, but in those cases, please consider something like {{bv}}. --JoanneB 09:04, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes ma'am, I tend to use test4im-n alot as I often find it easiest and I made it. In the future, I'll make only use it for usernames. I can't judge if an IP is dynamic or not in VP. Computerjoe's talk 09:59, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
It was no order, don't get me wrong :) I now see my wording was a bit 'peculiar', let's blame it on the lack of coffee and the early morning, sorry :) I just saw it pop up a few times, and after all the e-mails about it I've answered via OTRS, I might be a bit too focused on the effect of such warnings to innocent first time users who stumble upon their talk page. Anyway, have a nice day! Kind regards, --JoanneB 14:35, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Civility warning

G'day Joe,

thanks for your message. It's always nice to be kept on one's toes. Perhaps, as one of Concordia's staff of civility experts, you could explain to me exactly where in my reply I crossed the line from merely "strident" into the ghastly reaches of "incivil"? Rest assured I eagerly anticipate your advice on how I could best rephrase my comment to fit within Concordia's guidelines. fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 11:51, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I also look forward to seeing this. I've reviewed the comment in question and see nothing incivil about it. Please enlighten me as well as to what Concordia feels is inappropriate about his comments. Kelly Martin (talk) 12:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
I found "hey, remember whatever CJ is called this week and all its derivatives? Were you involved in that?", lie to them. offensive - and I'm sure other (good faith) members would agree. I think this offense was caused on purpose, and was uncivil. Computerjoe's talk 15:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
I was trying to get across that CJ et al. is a really very terrible idea. I suspect the way that I phrased it was not incivil (compare with the things that CJ/CCD members say), and did not cause offence: but the thoughts behind them did. Lookit, I appreciate that it hurts, seeing something you've put some effort into crumble. It's wounding for the ego, and depressing to see your fellow Wikipedians discussing the shortcomings of something you care about. I could have been more diplomatic, certainly (I don't know how, but I'm sure it's possible, and would welcome suggestions), but at the end of the day the fact remains that I think CJ/CCD is an absolutely woeful idea that needs to be killed. Is there any way I could express that view without causing offence, given that it's your baby? I suspect not. This is one of those unfortunate things. fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 15:52, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
CJ is by no means my baby - and I suspect what it going through now is simply a phase, though I do dislike it. Computerjoe's talk 15:55, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey Computerjoe, I'm sorry to see how much stress your RfA is causing. I hope you Wikibreak is nice and relaxing! Have some nice Esperanza coffee in the meantime. -- Natalya 14:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Natalya always tends to beat me to these things. Just wanted to leave a supportive note on your user page, what with the beating that CJ/Concordia has taken lately. You've been at the brunt end of a lot of criticism, and regardless what happens with the project, I hope that you won't lose sight of your overarching goal of creating a peaceful environment. Also, I hope that the criticism, some of it unnecessarily harsh, doesn't discourage you from continuing as an active member of Wikipedia (or from missing the legit reasons some are giving to oppose the project). At the end of the day, I think you've had a positive effect on most of the editors involved. Enjoy your break, take a breather, and learn from the experience. Let me know if I can help. No, no. I will Support. I just voted for that because it was late and I was reading the oppose votes, and I guess they convinced me. I understand how you don't like people judging your admin abilities on your organisation. But, first, I have to vote in some other RfA's. --GeorgeMoney T·C 17:04, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Community Justice is no more. It has been reformed to Concordia. Membership has been transferred.

Concordia is an organization of editors on Wikipedia that strive to encourage civility and fair treatment among all editors in the Wikipedian community, from the Wikignome to the Wikiholic. We currently need help in getting going, and making the community understand our aims. We work for civility. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have ideas, let us know at our talk page, or on the IRC channel. We aim to spread civility in every way we can.

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Korn_Kovers

Why did you close the AfD for Korn Kovers after only 12 hours? This is definitely not a speedy keep situation. There were 2 keeps and 1 weak keep. 2 of the votes came before I posted a second comment in there, so those users did not get the clarification I offered. Can you please justify why you did this? Metros232 15:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, human error. I was looking at the wrong day. My apologies. Computerjoe's talk 16:22, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:9rules.png

Thanks for uploading Image:9rules.png. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Don't be a dick

G'day Joe,

m:DICK serves a very valuable purpose. It's a good philosophy for getting on with others in online collaborative environments, and can be useful for you or I to refer to. However, it is almost never a good idea to show it to another user and say, you need to stop being a dick. That is ... incivil. I appreciate your frustration, but making personal attacks like that wasn't called for. Cheers, fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 19:22, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Yep. I shouldn't have replied or simply have stated WP:POINT - though I didn't think of this at the time. Thanks and apologies. Computerjoe's talk 19:25, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Since this is neither your user page style nor a direct statement with link to your en.wp page, I'm guessing there's a chance this user is attempting to impersonate you. Could you please verify this either is, or is not, you? - Amgine 23:22, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TfD User:Dtm142/User no evil boxes

Hi, I saw that you moved it to TfD from MfD. While it certainly looks like a template, and can be used like one, it is in userspace, not templatespace. Migrating userboxes from templatespace might be the compromise to settle the userbox issue, keeping POV out of the encyclopedic space (which userpspace isn't afaik), making the anti-userbox faction happy (userboxes no longer seen as "endorsed" by Wikipedia since it is no longer in templatespace and doesn't get a seperate namespace) and making the pro-userbox faction happy (userboxes funcion as well in userspace as in templatespace, POV may remain). Please comment on Wikipedia:The German solution for userboxes if you like, we want to get input from all sides. CharonX/talk 13:28, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I am offended that you would make such rediculous allegations, and I feel that closing the debate prematurely was very inapropriate. PS - I also find it ironic that your talk page says "Concordia - Working to promote civility in Wikipedia" whenyou make baseless allegations of bad faith simply because you disagree with a nomination. ENpeeOHvee 16:59, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

I've now brought this to deletion review. I've already addressed the Wikipedia article. It is kept because it's recieved extensive media coverage, so it's possible to write on it and cite those sources - thus avoiding original research and self-reference. [edit] I need an advocate and help with mediation

Greetings,

I need an advocate who will walk me through the mediation application.

I am trying to get the following added to the Many Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics.

I am having problem with an editor by the name of Lethe who follows me around Wikipedia reverting all my edits without commentary.

I have tried reasoning with him on discussion pages, but he refuses to read what I write.

Advantages of MWI

If Hugh Everett's theory was just another interpretation of Quantum Mechanics it would have no followers, especially since it proposes the existence of countless other unverses which theoretically can never be observed. Because it is not falsifiable it seemingly violates Popper's criteria for a good scientific theory. The reason it has so many adherents is because it offers numerous advantages over the Copenhagen Interpretation, among which are the following:

1. Quantum mechanics becomes a deterministic theory making it more compatible with the theory of relativity and all other physics theory to date which are all deterministic. The Coppenhagen Interpretation introduced indeterminacy and randomness into science. Aside from the Coppenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics there is no scientific theory that includes indeterminacy or randomness. Einstein particularly objected to this aspect of the Coppenhagen Interpretation. In response to it, he said, "God does not play dice with the universe."

2. It eliminates the "measurement problem."

3. It eliminates Von Neumann's "boundary problem": where to draw the line between the micro world where quantum mechanics applies, and the macro world where it does not. Shortly before his death in 1953, Albert Einstein wrote: "Like the moon has a definite position whether or not we look at the moon, the same must also hold for the atomic objects, as there is no sharp distinction possible between these and macroscopic objects."

4. It eliminates the special place for an observer and human consciousness.

5. It restores objective reality of the universe between measurements. Shortly before his death, Albert Einstein also wrote: "Observation cannot CREATE an element of reality like a position, there must be something contained in the complete description of physical reality which corresponds to the possibility of observing a position, already before the observation has been actually made."

6. The wave-particle duality paradox evaporates. It simply and naturally explains the double-slit experiment. Richard Feynman said, "[the double-slit experiment] has in it the heart of quantum mechanics. In reality it contains the only mystery." David Deutcsh wrote: ". . . the argument for the many worlds was won with the double-slit experiment."

7. Schrodinger's Cat paradox evaporates.

Based on the above advantages, it seems Einstein's main objections with quantum mechanics had more to do with the Copenhagen Interpretation, than with quantum mechanics itself[citation needed]. While MWI does not quite generate the kinds of worlds necessary to justify the anthropic principle, it is a step on the way to Stephen Hawking's No Boundary Proposal and Max Tegmark's All Universe Hypothesis which do justify the anthropic principle[citation needed].

Hello Computerjoe/Archive 5, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care.

Hi, well I'm flattered. I have actually been thinking about standing recently, however I'd like to get my main space edits up first, and maybe get an article to FA status first, and also get a few more edits on all the xfDs under my belt first. [edit] Crimean War

Thanks for offering to moderate this issue, Joe. I really want someone to mention in the article on the Crimean war that 1) there was a connection between the defeat of the Impreial Russan forces and the emancipation of Russian serfs and 2) the war resulted in the abolition of sale of commissions by the King's Army in Britian. I provided factual documentation on these points. So far this was deleted twice and I am unable to revise this a third time. [edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

[edit] AMA

Hi there. Firstly, thankyou for accepting my VP application. It has proved most useful (and, I must admit, somewhat addictive) in finding and reverting vandalism.

Secondly, having been on Wikipedia for a while and read fairly thoroughly the policies which govern it, as well as participating in some AfDs and giving an outside opinion in one or two RfCs, I thought that it might be interesting to serve the community by becoming an advocate. While I am not a lawyer, I do have an interest in English law, as well as debating. However, I am a little worried that I might mess something up, which is why I hesitate from adding my name to the AMA, and jumping straight in. I would therefore be extremely grateful if you could suggest a way I could learn what is required without the possibility of affecting clients, such as by shadowing. Thanks, David.Mestel 06:34, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

As an advocate, I generally offer advice on not breaching policies, and reminding the party to maintain a cool head in the dispute. An advocate, in my opinion, should aid in making a dispute civil and also standing up for a party if they cannot do it themselves. The best way to learn is to try it. Computerjoe's talk 07:15, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
OK, I'll just add myself to the AMA and jump in. One question: is it usual for advocates to communicate with their clients by e-mail, or through user talk pages? --David.Mestel 07:20, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
It depends on the user. I generally receive requests via. email - and that's how I reply. If they request through UT, I'll reply via UT. Computerjoe's talk 07:40, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
OK --David.Mestel 07:46, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Kenneth Montgomery Keillor vs JonnyChance

Hi Joe,

I posted the document below on the 'Mediation' page to reveal the true motives of JonnyChance for editing my article. I only include it hereinunder to clarify which article I'm referring to. As further evidence of the motives of JonnyChance, I offer you a quote from JonnyChance as posted today on the SHZine forum under the title 'Kenneth and wikipedia.org'.

Quote: hahahahaha unquote.

You can view it for yourself at the following link: http://shzine.proboards10.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1150126014&page=1

The paragraph produced by JonnyChance which is in question in the mediation is malicious, defamatory and blatantly biased and does not merit inclusion in the article.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Montgomery Keillor

Hereinunder is Kenneth Montgomery Keillor's response to 'JonnyChance', 'Fun 100' and 'Hygiene Boy'.
Without prejudice

An individual nicknamed JonnyChance who resides in Abbotsford, BC, Canada continually defaces this article about me with the following subtly malicious and derogatory drivel:

Quote: Keillor has gained notoreity in Abbotsford's music scene, most notably for his inclusive of members of many prominent musical groups (such as You Say Party! We Say Die!) on his "list," which is essentially a list of grievances, and for his posting on the SHZine Message Board[1]. Pop-Punk group Fun 100 references him in the song "Hygiene Boy" (sometimes referred to as "Kenneth"), specifically in lines such as "You're tired of these people / everybody's on your list. unquote.

I believe the individuals 'JonnyChance' aka Stephen Jersak is referring to as "members of many prominent musical groups" are Stu Hood and Jason Nicholas. When I mentioned them in my writings, I had no idea they were so-called 'musicians'. I just quoted an Abbotsford newspaper article which stated that the Abbotsford police had shut them down for disturbing their neighbors with loud, all-night parties billed as 'concerts' and for operating a suspected drug house. Since some so-called Abbotsford musicians calling themselves 'Fun 100' wrote, recorded and promoted a derogatory diatribe about me called 'Hygiene Boy', I have mentioned them in my writings as well. Stu Hood is the creator of SHZine forum. All of the persons referred to in this document have become aquainted with each other through said forum. Hood is a self-professed occultist who uses a music discussion forum to lure naive, unsuspecting youth into occult beliefs and an anti-Christ occultic lifestyle. Jason Nicholas professes to be a 'Christian'. I happened across Stu Hood's forum by accident and posted a brief invitation for any interested parties to contribute to the forum that I had just started. Go to www.thepunks.com/shzine.html to read the entire dialog that ensued.

'Jonny' makes reference to my 'notoriety'. I have gained notoriety pertinent to my music for being a singer, stage performer, recording artist and the composer of over 300 songs. I have gained further notoriety for adopting the following position pertinent to Abbotsford, BC, Canada as revealed in an email to someone from Abbotsford who recently wanted me to join their band:

"Hi. I live in Abbotsford and thought I should be considerate enough to reply to your email. I am a rock singer/songwriter and rhythm guitarist. Your project sounds interesting and like something I would normally be enthusiastic about participating in. Unfortunately, I have encountered, and been abused by, so much slime in Abby that I have decided not to perform my music here. In addition, I have met enough arrogant idiots who fancy themselves musical artists, and more than enough sleazy party filth, to cause me to lose interest in musicians, music shows or anything else pertaining to music, or parties, in Abbotsford. Nothing personal".

Lyrics to 'Hygiene Boy' (with comments by Kenneth Montgomery Keillor in brackets.)

you're tired of these people
(I've never had any stomach for scum and I make no bones about it)
everybody's on your list
(Only people I don't respect are on 'The List')
it's time you got your act together take control of it
(I'm a Christian who believes in Jesus and who has repented of his sins. In terms of having my act together and taking control of it, I'd rather be in my boots than yours)
to run from the country could be a better plan
(Sorry, I'm not the 'runnin' kind)
but the problem is this what you just don't understand
(Like I should ever worry about what you think I don't understand)
you're tired of the parties and you're tired of the streets
you're tired of the shows and you're tired of the scene
you say that you want out you say you gotta leave
but the only problem is that it's not easy 'cause you
(It's true that I'm tired of this world and the sleazy filth that it is full of and that I'm not into your 'scene'. Even though certain individuals make Abbotsford smell bad, I've never suggested I was prepared to leave for their sake.
Time for a scripture quote: John 15:19: "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." - Jesus Christ)
can't run, run from the country when you don't do your laundry
(I'd be willing to bet I do my laundry more often than you)
bask in, bask in the glory
(I say "All glory to the Lord Jesus Christ")
of your own small-town story
(I'm more of a world citizen and more knowledgeable about this world than the whole bunch of you ever will be.)
do what, do what you oughta do what, do what you gotta
but don't tell me that you didn't get no warning
(I got the only warning that matters. It's in the Bible. You might want to check it out.)
na na na-na na na-na
(Are you sure you don't mean 'wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah'?)

(repeat)

can't run, run from the country when you don't do your laundry
bask in, bask in the glory of your own small-town story
do what, do what you gotta do what, do what you oughta
but don't tell me that you didn't get no warning

i take a bus i know my route i pick up change and i buy food!
i plug myself into a block of cheese oh, i envy you
(It's not that I don't like buses, but I've never taken a ride on an Abbotsford bus. I'd bet you all have.)
What is really 'cheesy' is your all too obvious attempt to defame me.
(In spite of yourselves, I still hope you find Jesus and get saved.)

Hygiene Boy« Last Edit: Mar 24, 2005, 8:26pm by jonny hughes »(yet another SHZine adherent).

Fun 100
Some and possibly all of the following Abbotsford individuals have been actively involved with promotion of the defamatory composition 'Hygiene Boy':
Bruce Dyck - drums
Steve Matheson - bass like guitar
Marc Boucher - whining/synths/back up vocals
Ryan Dyck - lead vocals/keyboards
Adam Fothergill - guitar
Nathan Rothenburger - Bass
Robin Price - Guitar
Mark Jaholkowski - Bass

Galations 6:7: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
This scripture is extremely bad news for many individuals in Abby.

While writing this document, I have made a sincere effort to be truthful, accurate and polite.

Kenneth Montgomery Keillor
