[edit] CJ Elections
What the hell is going on with the elections! They've changed the electoral rules after the elections's started! I mean it is crazy! Take a look at zappa.jakes's talk page and you'll see that he and Darth Vader changed the rules after the election had started. This is ridiculous. [edit] CJ Election Question
I am really confused the reason why I voted for a Councillor is I saw Pureblade had voted for a councillor b/c of zappa/whatever but what it doesn't say in the archives is if I'm going to get disciplinary action for what I did. I wanna know if you think I should. Sorry for the trouble I caused Mahogany-wanna chat?
- No, no action will be taken - I will make sure of that. Wisden17 is being harsh. Computerjoe's talk

-
- Thanks Mahogany-wanna chat?
-
-
-
-
- I hardly think I was being harsh when I made my initial comments. I did not realise that there was the confusing statement on the actual voting page. Even so I think that all people voting should have noticed the mistake and informed zappa.jake. I don't think that any disciplinary action should be taken against those who voted, but would certainly not support zappa.jake or DarthVader if they wanted to act as election officials again. Both should have known the electoral rules, and both clearly seemed to be at a loss. --Wisden17 17:00, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Personal attacks?
Per the comment you left on my talk page, which came out of left field for me, please provide me with details on what you're possibly referring to that would constitute a personal attack or a disruptive comment on my part, so that I can evaluate and adjust my behavior as appropriate. -- PKtm 19:13, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- This edit Computerjoe's talk 19:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
On your response: that edit is not a personal attack. It was a bona fide and politely phrased warning to a user who persists (see his history) in blanking his user talk page and removing warnings that have been left there in good faith by multiple users. The user responded immediately by (appropriately) restoring the deleted content, so it's a non-issue. I must say I am greatly puzzled as to why you're getting involved, especially at this point and without there being a dispute. Please refer to WP:VAND, particularly the part on talk page vandalism. -- PKtm 19:29, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- The way you said it was very rude. The vandal was at the time following Wikipedia policy, and I and another user assisted him archiving his warnings. He has not removed or received warnings since. WP:VAND says warnings may be removed, if I'm not mistaken, in archiving. Computerjoe's talk 19:32, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input, but with all due respect, I have to reject it. I was not rude, and in fact I make every due effort to never be rude on Wikipedia. The person archived his warnings, then a week later deleted the reference to the archive. Please reread WP:VAND, where it says (my bolding added): "The above does not apply to the user's own Talk page, where users generally are permitted to remove and archive comments at their discretion, except in cases of warnings, which they are generally prohibited from removing, especially where the intention of the removal is to mislead other editors.
- Again, I'm still very puzzled as to why you're pursuing this, when there is already resolution and there is no dispute. The user, in fact, left me a friendly note (albeit unsigned) in response to my comment. -- PKtm 19:41, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- When the warnings he removed were given, WP:VAND contradicted itself. However, he shouldn't have removed the reference. IMO, your response was uncivil, but if both parties don't really care that's fine. You have the right to remove this warning, as it is informal. Computerjoe's talk 19:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Thanks for the offer, but I will probably leave your "warning" (and the subsequent rational discussion) in place, and let whomever might read it decide whether it was appropriate. Obviously, I myself consider your warning to be very misplaced, as well as out of the blue. I would gently (and civilly) point out to you that there are so many pages/debates in Wikipedia where we should actively police civility; I think we should all focus on clearcut examples and patterns, not jump into the fray in the case of a single (at best very mild) instance. -- PKtm 22:26, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I find it interesting that you describe yourself as a member of "Community Justice - Working to promote civility in Wikipedia", and yet you are incivil and are unwillling to assume good faith on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of PS2 DVD9 Games. Regards, Alphax τεχ 08:54, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Is listcruft really a civil term to use? Does it show that you have put effort into thinking about the proposal? Ansell 09:29, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

- Do you feel that it's "civil" to dismiss people's comments with remarks such as "Only 91 edits. This is first to this namespace"[1]? [edit] Why I'm not a WP:CJ member
Hi Computerjoe. Thanks for the invite, but to be honest there is a method to my madness of not joining WP:CJ even as I contribute to the talk page. Although I think civility is extremely important, I am not a fan of CJ's methods for promoting it, which seem to me to tend toward form (e.g. titles, votes, banners, etc.) rather than function. That doesn't mean I think you won't accomplish anything, and I've long since learned that telling people to give up on what they're doing because you don't like their approach is a recipe for futility—and, well, incivilicty—on Wikipedia. I figure live and let live, since we're all working for free and all.
So why do I watch your talk pages and make contributions? It's because occasionally CJ seems to be leaning towards doing something that will cause problems somewhere, and at that point "live and let live" isn't such a good idea, so I make suggestions to help avoid those problems. -- SCZenz 07:01, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Uncivilty by CJ members...
I think banning Ethopunk/whatever is way to harsh, so would you propose my idea of a probation for each of the members. It would work like this, 1 or 2 members are chosen to watch all comments made by that member and remind them daily what it means to be civil. Then if the refuse the probation idea they will be temporary blocked from CJ a continuing uncivilty they are permablocked from CJ. (We must not be hypocrytic of CJ!!!) Mahogany ( I should have prepared my RFA much better but oh well if I'm not elected this time there is always next year!!)
- I have also took out my input on why I wasn't reelected for CJ councillor Mahogany

Hi, I am Eagle talk, I am a fellow moderator on VP. Currently the program is not recognizing my user name as a moderator. As such the program does not always recognize some of the changes I make to the VP official welcom page. (you know what I am talking about). This problem has been documented on User talk:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs#Moderator update is not working. I request a "Null" edit to that page, The reason is a user I added is having problems logging in.
- To do a "Null" edit, just make a minute change to the page and save. Then it will accept all previous changes made to it. (which are my additions) ThanksEagle talk 20:45, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. this message is going out to all moderators on at this time of day.
[edit] Your vote on my RFA
Thank you for voting on my RFA, however I've decided to withdraw my nomination. I'll perhaps nominate myself in the future once I have more experience, and not to immaturely release RFAs. Until then, I'll continue working on Wikipedia. —THIS IS MESSEDOCKER (TALK) 21:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My RFA
Hi Computerjoe/Archive 4,
Thank you for supporting my RFA! Unfortunately it did not succeed mainly because most opposers wanted me to spend more time on Wikipedia. Thank you for your faith in me & looking forward to your continued support in the future.

Hi Computerjoe - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision - I simply cannot accept misrepresentation and nonsense. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything. [edit] CJBot
Even though I'm not in CJ, I touched up the CJ newsletter that CJBot sent (to every talk page it sent the newsletter to), as it had several typos and formatting errors.
A diff of my changes can be seen here. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 01:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Miss BC Coast
I removed the PROD tag for this. I felt that it was unfair to treat this competition, different from competitions of an equal level in the US (where we have at least one, for every state). Also "GHits" are not related to notability, particular for something that is not an online contest. This article is really a subarticle to the larger pageant system (just as in the US cases). It would be like deleting a single team in a professional league in sports. --Rob 15:55, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, surely it could be merged into Miss World Canada? Computerjoe's talk 16:10, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

I did not "make" another user join. He wanted to join but didn't know how as you will find out if you ask him. Please desist from jumping to conclusions thank-you. - I apologise for this, however, if a user whiches to join it's a good idea for sie to do that under his/her username. Computerjoe's talk 16:56, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
That is all very well sir, however, is the basis of community justice not to help people in need? And he was getting in somewhat of a pickle thus i assisted him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.205.196 (talk • contribs)
- No, we do not help those in need. However, he should've joined under his/her own username - or provided an explanation in the edit summary. 17:03, 15 May 2006 (UTC)~

You closed the AfD on this saying the result of the debate was "keep". I believe the proper summary would be "no consensus" since there were a nontrivial number of delete votes (unless you'd like to give reasoning for overriding them). Thanks. Fagstein 00:11, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Co-nom of Joturner
What do you mean by "co-nominating" that is not expressed by a "strong support, would have nominated him myself"? I personally think co-nominations should at least expand the nomination statement by adding other good sides of the candidate; those without a statement I find rather useless. I almost commented on that at the RfA page itself, but since it is not Joturner's fault I decided against it. I am not sure whether you really do an editor a favor by such a co-nomination. [edit] Just a note...
In this edit summary you stated that "Any further joins by [Cicero Dog] will be classed as VANDALISM." I'm afraid that you are not entitled to do that. [edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available
After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:13, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Philosopher kings bassist
Hey man,
My name's Marc Rogers, and I'm the new bassist for the Philosopher Kings. I keep trying to add my name to the band's entry and it looks like you keep removing it. I also got your user talk page saying "You're not in the band. Stop pretending you're in the band." Well guess what, I AM IN THE DAMN BAND! If I was going to insert myself into a band that I'm not really in, it would be Coldplay (or possibly Arcade Fire). Here's a link to a London Free Press article that actually mentions me:
http://lfpress.ca/cgi-bin/publish.cgi?p=123010&x=articles&s=club
Here's a (poorly written) article from the University of British Columbia's Ubyssey:
http://www.ubyssey.bc.ca/20060310/article.shtml?%3C!--2--%3ECulture/05b.html
That's the first two I've found that actually mention me by name. I'd be happy to send you a scan of a recent Canadian Musician article or even a scan of the album interior artwork.
I'm going to go add my name again to the page...for the love of God please leave it alone. :) 72.136.196.62 23:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Klingon Wikipedia
The Klingon Wikipedia was locked based on a Foundation-level discussion which is unlikely to be revisited. It was never especially active having only ever amassed around 2000 edits to 62 articles during its 14 month run [4], and was locked at User:Jimbo Wales request [5] after lengthy but inconclusive discussion. (e.g. m:Artificial_languages_equal_rights). While Jimbo has never publicly stated his exact rationale for closing the wiki, it was done against a backdrop of many divisive discussions regarding conlangs (of which only Ido and Esperanto have Wikipedias now, and each of these has large numbers of speakers). It also was done at a time when the project was maturing from a geeky experiment to a genuine and effective effort to bring knowledge to the world. The Klingon wikipedia was limited by the lack of any community of speakers and a closed, incomplete vocabulary. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 22:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
