WApedia (IPA: /ˈwɒpiːdiə//) is a free open content encyclopedia project operated by Wikia, a wiki hosting company owned by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, the owners of Wikimedia, Wikipedia, and other related projects. Its name is a blend of the abbreviation WA (the official postal abbreviation of Washington) and the word encyclopedia. Launched on April 13, 2008 by ComputerGuy890100, a user of Wikipedia (also known as a Wikipedian), it is still under construction or considered in "beta testing".

WApedia began as an idea that was posted on Wikia's Request Wiki on April 12, 2008.^[1] Angela Beesly (co-founder of Wikia) later approved the site and the site was ready for testing.
