[edit] Route Description
[edit] State Avenue
State Avenue begins at an interchange with Interstate 5 near Everett. The SR 529 designation begins here and the roadway moves northeast to the Ebey Slough Bridge. After crossing the bridge, State Avenue turns north into Downtown Marysville. The road intersects with SR 528 (known as Fourth Street) in Downtown. After passing the City Hall and other major connecting roads such as Grove Street, 88th Street, and 116th, State Avenue continues as Smokey Point Boulevard from 136th Street to SR 530.
[edit] Smokey Point Boulevard
Smokey Point Boulevard begins at an intersection with State Avenue and 136th Street. Smokey Point Boulevard continuies north alongside Interstate 5 and then curves northeast before reaching the intersection with SR 531 (commonly known as 172nd Street) in the heart of Smokey Point, Washington. After passing SR 531, the Smokey Point Community Church, a split with 35th Street, and 200th Street (also known as King-Thompson Road), one of the bridges across Interstate 5, Smokey Point Boulevard finally splits into two roads each having the words Smokey Point Boulevard and two-laned (two directions) to SR 530 (known as the Pioneer Highway), where the road ends.
[edit] History
The road originated from about 1905 when State Road 1 was created. Later in 1926, after the creation of the U.S. Route system, US 99 was co-designated with PSH 1, which was designated in 1937 and followed the route of I-5's route. Later in the 1964 state highway renumbering, PSH 1 was decomissioned and later in 1968, with I-5 complete, US 99 was decomissioned too.
[edit] Name
The name Smokey Point Boulevard originated from the name of the community of Smokey Point, which in turn was named after the Smokey Point Café. The name State Avenue has no orgins.
