- Section names are arbitrary, use whatever section names the list has
- Provide section names only, do not link
- Parameters must be assigned to Sec1, Sec2, and/or Sec3—default parameters will not work
- Parameters do not need to be assigned in order
- Sec1 (if provided) appears before Sec2 and Sec3, Sec2 (if provided) appears before Sec3

[edit] Template update
I've added parameters to allow this template to retain its original functionality as well as replace and expand the function of {{CompactTOC7a}}, which I've nominated for deletion. BigNate37(T) 21:32, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alignment
I'm an ignoramus when it comes to most template-related things. Would it be possible to have the alignment of this TOC as a parameter? It's set to "center"; I'd really like to use it on the "left" of the page as Template:CompactTOC2 appears, with the "Contents" header on the left as well, rather than centered above the links. I need the three optional Section names that are provided here; they're not available for CompactTOC2.
The solution I came up with in the meantime was to insert all the code rather than using a template; I'd much rather have a "cleaner" solution. (See List of gay porn stars.)
Should I just go ahead and try to create yet another template with this feature? Any help that is available would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.—Chidom talk 05:21, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would suggest that it is easier to modify {{CompactTOC2}} In the same way I did to this template[1] to support three optional parameters than to modify this one to allow alignment to be changed. Changing alignment in this template would require moving the Contents label from a seperate row to the same one if it is to be consistent with CompactTOC2. BigNate37(T) 18:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

- Good point. Also, since the optional parameters don't appear unless you choose them, it wouldn't change the way folks use the template as it currently exists. I'll give it a shot when I get the time. Thanks.—Chidom talk 21:59, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
