Hello, I created the original "You are an idiot" site (members.verizon.net/~vze29k6v/you.html You Are An Idiot!. I was just wondering if anyone knows the original source for the "You are an idiot" sound? I got the sound file from was a Quake II mod called Weapons Factory; it was one of the radio taunts, but I believe they took the clip from somewhere else, probably some TV show or cartoon. I'm just curious as to where it's really from, anyone know? :) --Herschel 04:31, Jan 12, 2005 (UTC)

I hope nobody objects to my introduction and use of the Disturbing tag... JoeBaldwin 10:57, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I object to the Disturbing tag, and will continue to delete it. Put warnings on the links, but by listing the article as Disturbing is POV. RickK 20:31, Jul 12, 2004 (UTC)

Britney Spears prank

I never played it I do know that there is a screamer prank where you have to strip her naked. But when you try to do that, what scary picture pops-up. I imagened "red demon" but what if I was wrong?

Red Room

Should red room be on a page of its own? i wrote a separate section on it today, but realized its not really a "prank", any opinions? Niz 28 June 2005 11:58 (UTC)

I'm not sure it deserves a page of its own, but it definitely doesn't belong in this article. Gwalla | Talk 28 June 2005 19:01 (UTC)
i didnt introduce it, it was already here, i just expanded it to explain its not a screamer or trick. although according to User:Mitsukai it is still classified as a "shock flash"... can "shock flash" also mean "horror story flash"?
Well it's sort of a prank, isn't it, the way the exact same pop-up as in the flash comes up after it ends? I like The Red Room, it would make a great film; kind of like Seven meets The Net meets The Ring. Although Hollywood would probably screw it up, stick Dakota Fanning in there (as the inevitable 'child who is the focus of/reason for the paranormal activity'), put in all manner of cliches including at least one scene where someone runs away from the bad guy by cornering themselves in an attic or bedroom, three or four lingering shots of someone opening a door to find a cat, have the bad guy turn out to be the really nice child psychologist or someone, and make it about as creepy as an episode of Scooby Doo. --Stevefarrell 14:38, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
It's not a prank, unless the "...and they say the killer still lurks in these very woods!" ending to countless campfire stories counts as a prank. It's just a spooky flash. Gwalla | Talk 02:58, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
You're right, I guess. Putting that pop-up in at the end is much the same thing as they did with The Ring (US version), when they played the entire killer video at the end of the movie. The Red Room might well be better served with a section in the Internet phenomenon article. --Stevefarrell 11:34, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Parodies

Regarding the parody screamer featuring Michael Jackson - is it just me or is Michael Jackson actually far scarier looking than the Fatal Frame demon woman?

--Stevefarrell 21:13, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

dont even need to put him in a screamer to get that reaction, he's terrifying just doing interviews! Niz 22:26, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Ebaums world

www.ebaumsworld.com/flash/dubdub.html

I'm not sure but the description there says "Turn your volume on max and sing along... dub dub dub dub... " and I suspect that it could be a screamer. Can somebody check it? If so, then add it here.

Not a screamer. The site plays a song (Scooter - Maria [I Like It Loud]) while using Javascript to make the browser window shake in rhythm with the song.

Lindsay Lohan Nekkid

lindsaylohannekkid.ytmnd.com (WARNING: it is very creepy, I wouldn't view it late at night if I were you.)

Would this qualify as a screamer? Its URL suggest lewd pictures of Lindsey Lohan, but the page itself scared me to near-death. It isn't a flash though.

not really, its a ytmnd or shock site Niz 19:20, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Well, I think it would qualify as a screamer if a disturbing image and scream popped up. What happens in the link, does it have a scream sound?

Yes, it does have a scream and a disturbing image. The image is a little girl with a creepy face and eyes. If the link was posted under prank flash, some may consider it a screamer. -Shinobi101 16:29, Jan 2, 2006

Well, really, it's more like a disturbing image with an eerie, disturbing electric guitar screech, but as long that you don't see the preview beforehand or you end up having bad sound/picture synch for the YTMND, you might hav a bit of a scare, heh heh. Delf 21:52, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I've seen that before also, scared the hell out of me. IMO, its a screamer. -Terry 4k

Seen that, it scared me too. Lol a great way to teach perverts. Lolkfee

Yup. I didn't find it very effective. She looked more cute than scary....... 68.190.41.152 15:46, 21 April 2006 (UTC)E.B.

the girl is from the movie "THE EXORCIST" (Remake)

It is? It can't be. It's not scary.... Think about it..... Big, beady eyes, longingly gazing at you, a sweet smile, and to top it all off, she's holding a hadful of candy, like lollipops and ribbons. And although she has an overly large cranium, she does have two thin yet bouncy piggtails......... It is simply opinion......68.190.41.152 18:07, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

ScArY Sh't

nice going gangs, those links are scary:D i am scared to even click on some of them thanks to the spoiler, good thing that thing is therE:D

Thats right

Some of them aren't as scary as described. But that all depends on the prank itself... -Shinobi101 16:32, Jan 2, 2006

Screamer on AFV

I remember on America's Funniest Videos they did a bit where, they posted a photo of a living room on their site, after a while a pale white face would pop up with a screaming sound. The site invited people to show this to people and have them to analyze the picture to find what was wrong with it while video taping and send it in to the show. Does anyone know if this predates the internet fad, or did the show get the idea from th fad?

I bet all my money the show got the idea from the fad. The concept of the show even came from another programme. -- Perfecto Canada 02:12, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm with Perfecto on this one. I also think that the prank came first and then AFV aired it on their show just to get some interesting expressions. -Shinobi101 16:39, Jan 2, 2006

Buddy Lee Staring Contest

What pops up in this? It doesn't say anything in the summary other than it being a prank.

It's not really a prank, it's a trap, really. You stare at a picture for several levels, but after a while, the same level repeats itself, and you pretty much realize (or don't) that you're wasting your time and quit. -Delf 21:54, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion for seperate "list of screamers" page

Screamers are now numerous, so I think it would be a good idea to have a seperate list in case there are literally a billion of these things here.

- Anonymous contributor 2:45 December 16, 2005

There is one about a widely distributed prank known as "K-fee Auto" that I wrote on the product advertised in the prank and it also includes a description of the prank flash section as well. -Shinobi101 16:45, Jan 2, 2006

Awesome Wiki

I fell victim to a few of these before, I think this is one of the best Wiki's.

Sooo many problems

While this appears to be a valid subject for an encyclopedic article:

  1. What's the standard for inclusion on this page? Anything that's a "prank flash", anything that's a "widely known" prank flash, anything that has been mentioned in media as a prank flash, or anything that has been mentioned in a Wikipedia:Reliable source as a notable prank flash? Because unless we take option number one, too many things are on this page.
  2. What's the standard for inclusion of external links? Anything that makes it to the page gets a couple of links in, or are we following the guidelines at Wikipedia:External links? And with a dash of WP:NOT as well?
  3. How are we WP:Verifying this stuff? See "reliable sources" above.

I'll give it a couple of days, and if we can't get some better footing in verifiability and citing sources, then some most of these things will probably have to go.

brenneman(t)(c) 05:47, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

There needs to be a seperate entry for "List of Screamers". There's very little information about these on the Internet, so I feel the article itself is justified, it just needs to be split up.--Tenka Muteki 19:53, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

  • The issue is that, in its current state, this article is advertising the particular "screamers" on the page and does not provide much in the way of history, context, or public response. - brenneman(t)(c) 23:04, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't doubt that this article needs cleaning up, but I think the entries need to be moved to their own seperate article, as opposed to deletion. There's an entire article listing the known Shock Sites, so I don't see a problem with this.--69.233.40.145 00:38, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

The list of screamers was deleted, so millions of people can have heart attacks? Will someone please try to make another list? I have avoided so many screamers with the old list, and I bet other people have too..now we're supposed to fend for ourselves? What's up with that? 65.4.27.229 02:29, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd be happy to revert it to its previous form, but that doesn't seem possible at the moment without potenial backlash. I wouldn't be suprised if someone restored the article in the near future, however.--Tenka Muteki 03:13, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

cleanup restructuring: there is now a separate article List of prank flash animations. do not add any further examples on this page. Zzzzz 15:57, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
This is a lot better. I will keep an eye on the page for the examples section getting longer again. Good Work!. Gerard Foley 16:02, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup

I've finished removing all the useless information. I tried to start a new article for a list of Screamers, but it was shortly after that it was flagged for deletion.--Tenka Muteki 02:16, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

And these attempts will be shot down over and over... this page shouldn't exist either. Dyslexic agnostic 07:20, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

But it is. People find this information useful. I don't see why you're so uptight about it. If this particular article shouldn't exist, than why does it?--Tenka Muteki 02:35, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Ugh

The examples of screamers section grows and grows all the time, as anyone who has ever created one of these finds this article and lists his own. I'm gonna delete a few which were clearly posted by the person who created them, but beyond that, I'm not sure how to fix this situation. And the ones I delete will surely be added back soon enough, or dozens more like them. --Xyzzyplugh 13:08, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I've added the "Kikia Parody" one to the "Non Screamers" list before, which you deleted afterward. I'd just like to note that I most certainly did not make it, and don't even know who did. My intentions were mostly just to amuse, rather then to plug personally - as it really is kind of a funny flash. --H Hog , March 10th

ABC Song: Screamer?

Is the ABC Song really a screamer? It doesn't scare me at all. It's funny IMO.--69.92.122.13 15:38, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it is, in my opinion. But the suprise might scare some people, so I suppose it would be okay to leave it there.

It's not scary to me, but seriously, keep away from this if you're epileptic.

It's funny how the public access station kept the flashing "5" on for 12 hours. What a strange glitch. Maybe it was an attempt to give children seizures.

I don't think that actually happened, but was some silly reason to create the flash in the first place. Sister Ray 20:14, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

edit by 195.93.21.41

195.93.21.41, you completely removed the examples of screamers section, but left in the examples of non screamers. I see no possible point in this. If you wanted to remove all the examples, this would make some sort of sense, but removing the more on-topic half of them did not make sense, so I reverted your edit. Also, best to discuss or at least mention what you're doing here if you're gonna remove half the text of the article. --Xyzzyplugh 17:12, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

What was the shock images you used???? and can u tell me how exactly u made the prank flash because i have a few scary images that would suit a prank flash.

Another screamer

I found this flash linked to, and I don't see any mention of it in the article. All I can go by is the URL; the site that hosts it doesn't seem to have a link with a title. Basically it's an image of a wolf costume of sorts that, after a few seconds, turns and "attacks" the screen with a hideous howl and the words "I'LL RAPE YOU" appear. Just a raw SWF file.

I was going to just add it to the list, but clearly there's some debate about whether or not to do that, so I'll just post the link here and let you pros sort it out.

Who keeps sabotaging this?

Someone keeps messing up this article. I know people find it useful, and I don't really see a point. I don't have speakers on my computer, so I can't tell what sound comes. Can anyone see if they can do that? Also some of the images come from movies, ect; I am not a movie watcher and don't know where they originated. Sister Ray 01:44, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Liquid Generation

Should the Liquid Generation Sabotages have their own separate section on this article?

I'm not even sure any of them should be listed. There's just too many of them, and they're all pretty similar. (You could say that about *any* of these, but at least some of them use scary images...)Sister Ray 04:01, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Only a few of them should be listed. If they all were, which they probably will, then nobody would go to liquidgeneration.com to see the sabotages. -Shinobi101

Family in Egypt

How is it that the shock image in "Family in Egypt" is from Rubber Johnny? I don't ever remember him looking like that. -Shinobi101

(sorry I'm a bit new to wikipedia so this is the best I could do to reply) actually i is a screen from Rubber Johnny, when the Aphex song in the background is about half way in and Johhny is pressed up on the wall.

Cool Lightning Stuff

Should the "Cool Lightning" flash really be in the non-scremers section? That "Wooshing" sound is pretty loud and abrupt to be a non-screamer. I realize it can't be a screamer because there is no scream, but it could be considred a prank animation instead of a non-screamer, perhaps. -Shinobi101, 16:07, Apr. 3, 2006

Subliminal Music And Images

Because of somebody stating that this prank flash was suggestively the scariest on the Internet I haven't managed to clik the link to it. Could someone please describe it in more detail, for example, what is the shock image used? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chillie Gal (talkcontribs)

But that would ruin the surprise! Λυδαcιτγ(TheJabberwock) 03:56, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh please tell me because I find these things awfully frighting. I have managed to get on the bit where the song is being played but i turned it off after 5 seconds. I just want to know what the image being used is so i can judge whether i'll find it scary or not.

Well, it's actually a flurry of images, like a picture of a harlequin fetus, and more. The last one is a greyscale picture of something I think, but other than that, I can't really remember. -Shinobi101

Thanks Shinobi, but if anyone has recently seen it or knows more about the images used and is able to describe them well please state them after this. And I asked my partner to go on it and i came in the room hiding behind him which was sad, but, I did manage to catch a glimpse of the last image and it looked like one of those Indian Tribe heads, am I correct?

You must have been looking at the skull-like thing, right? The images moved by so fast that I couldn't see them. The actual scary part was not the images, but the backwards song..... The song gets you really scared, and then the roar tops it off..... 68.190.41.152 00:41, 30 May 2006 (UTC) The Notorious Kitty

If you look under the subliminal messages section of the main article, it says the 5 images that pop up the the screamer, but it doesn't say what the 2 rotten.com pictures exactly look like.

Why don't you add the info? Λυδαcιτγ(TheJabberwock) 21:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't the one that posted the pictures, and i'm afraid of rotten.com pictures, they are too sickening.

Ah yes, I've watched it now and I keep repeating until I can try and figure out what the other two pictures are. It's just to quick. But I'm sure the two rotten.com pictures are very gruesome. If I find out I shall post it. - Chillie Gal

The first picture must be a rotten.com picture and it looks like a bloody face with long braided hair. This is followed by the white exorcist face, the harlequin baby, another picture and the unwrapped skull head. - Chillie Gal

The others are right. The absolutely scariest part of this screamer is the backwards song. Then the scream and the flurry of images top it off. I can't actually remember the images; the shock must have blasted them out of my mind. But that song... woah. It's the kind of thing that really stops you sleeping. 60.224.254.174 13:21, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Aaron Pepin This is to —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chillie Gal (talkcontribs) . You do not want to watch it. I saw it. It is scary. Nuff' said. Especialy don't watch it at night. Tg\he song at the end especialy is scary. You can see everything else, but click back when it says "do you want to hear the song?" I'm saying: you can see the beginning pictures scare-free. But click back when it asks you if you want to hear the music.

Jingle Bells Reversed

Hi guys, its Chillie Gal again, I was just wondering what happens on the Jingle Bells prank. Im not going to even attempt it. Can anyone give me the details of what happens?

It shows a negative picture if some guy moving, and it repeats itself a lot. The scream I think is kinda high, but different than most pranks. Not too scary, actually. -Shinobi101

So no scary demons or exorcist faces?

Suprisingly, no. -Shinobi101

How Do You Create A Prank Flash

Does anyone know how to create a prank flash? I have thought about what I could do and have a few good images that could possibly be used but I'm not sure how to create it. Does anyone know how? - Chillie Gal

Well, it depends on what type of program your using. -Shinobi101

Can you suggest something very easy and basic and possibly what every computer has? I have a webcam?? Does that help?

It can't be made by anything easy and basic that every PC has. You need at least a basic knowledge of Flash authoring. Foolish Child 10:56, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Aaron Pepin This is what I do to make most of my pranks: Use a free program called game maker. I am amungst the first to make screamers out of a game program. Just make a game, and at some point, make a face pop out and screem. I also like to use windows movie maker. Does anyone here use game maker? Or windows movie maker? Or, has anyone here made their own screamers?

subliminalmessages.com

I'm afraid to go on this site. I'm sure something is going to pop up and scare the heck out of me. Could some brave soul try it? -Alice

It's nothing bad...it's a good sight, some of the animations on it are screamers though.

I went on it but I turned it off due to that advertisement with the red tarantula.

Red tarantula....? -Shinobi101

Yes, you must have seen it. It is a banner at the top of the page and it has lods of tarantulas crawling on it. One of them is flashing red tarantula and it says click it to win a prize. I don't bother though.

Yeah the site is okay, it has a couple of screamers which are faily obvious, such as the K-Fee car ad.

Aaron Pepin Ohhh, I thought you were talking about the subliminal messege screamer.

Urban Legend Series

Chillie Gal again, I was just wondering which Urban Legend episodes have screamers in them because I am intrigued to watch them as they look quite interesting. But I dont want to watch them because I don't know which one's have a screamer in them. Can someone tell me what one's are screamers and which one's aren't. Thanks.

The third one, Urban Legends 3", has two of them in it. Some of the other ones have multiple ones in them as well, like the one about UFO's. The one called "Urban Legends, Evidence", has one in it, that is the German prank car commercial for K-fee, with a different sound for the scream. I just haven't watched "Origins" yet, so you can if you want. I don't think that it has any. -Shinobi101

Ok. Have you tried Urban Legends 1 and 2. I dont think they have screamers in. - Chillie Gal

Yeah, I've seen all of them, but I'll go jog my memory with the first two. -Shinobi101

Hey, I just recognised something from Urban Legends 3 and onwards, they have a short message at the beginning on the loading screen. It says, "Turn off the lights, crank up the speakers and enjoy". Or something like that. I'm guessing Urban Legends 1 and 2 are the only one's that don't have screamers in them. I'll check it out again. - Chillie Gal

Yeah, I think you're right. I've seen all but one of them, so I don't know if it has one or not. Most of them say that line, though. -Shinobi101

I found Urban Legends 3 really scary. And it wasn't just the girl that pops up, almost all of it scared me, but I never went by it as a screamer. Better yet, I didn't go by it as a prank! --BlooWilt 19:29, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Paris Hilton Game

You must be getting tired of me but oh well. I've discovered something that seems to be a Prank Flash Game but because of the relatively close Lindsay Lohan Nekkid prank I'm afraid this is going to be just as bad. Can someone tell me?

I havn't checked this one but a lot of celebrity naked things are screamers, such as 'Strip Britney Naked' is which you have to move a dot around a maze to uncloth a picture of Britney Spears. The picture that pops up is not particularly scary.

The picture on that Britney maze game scared me a lot! If I hadn't had the sound off, I think I would've died. Thank goodness for volume adjustment.

I also have a list of stuff not to put in your comment for a screamer. I'm talking about if you have flash on your website. Here's a list of stuff that will give away the fact that it's a prank/screamer:

  • Turn up the volume (Especially don't say "turn it up all the way")
  • Watch this late at night with the lights off
  • There's a suprise at the end

Well, there's the list. Remember not to say any of those.

SCREAM AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE SCARIEST FLASH PRANKS ARE?

Well one of them is Subliminal Music & Images. Jingle Bells Reversed is really loud. After I fell for it, I went into my room and slept for a while. I also suspect that The Maze is very scary.

I don't know any pranks scarier than subliminal messages-Aaron Pepin I hear you there!

Aaron PepinList of screamers I have fell victim to: (Please, who ever Is reading this, make your own list so we can see the pranks you fell victim to too.)Theres are listen in chronological order. There should be a seperate page for lists like these, can I make one plese?

Classic Ahhh: This is the first ever screamer I saw. It was sent to my mom a long time ago. Even though I've been watching my mom watching it, knowing that something is going to pop up and scare me, I still watched it when my mom told to watch it. I must have been really dumb or something, I knew something was going to pop up, and I still fell victim to it.

Super plungerman: I saw my brother play this. He was playing this stupid liquid generation game. When he wnet to a secret area, a bloody person comes up "Ahh, someone help me, ahh!" You could tell the help mssege was fake, and since the yelling is srt of long, you don't get really scared. It's pretty stupid actualy. But it still makes your hair stand up, but it isn't disturbing.

Where's waldo: I was sleeping in my dad's room one day, then a heard a loud scream reminesing from the hall, a heard my brother yelling and crying, an my dad laughing. I wondered what it was. So ran down the hall, and looked at the screen. I then fell victim to it. Waldo poping up in a where's waldo flash is pretty genius.

Yet another retarded liquid generation scream-thing: Oneday at m dad's office, my brother and I were playing on the computers. My dad sent us an E-mail. I knew it was going to be a pathetic scream-thingy becuase it had liquid and generation somewhere in the name. But my brother still ended up falling victim to it.

Retarded car screamer: I saw this in school, nuff' said. I didn't jump as much as most screamers I saw.

Subliminal messeges ahh: CAUTION, THIS IS REALLY CREAPY, I SUGEST NOT GOING TO IT. One day, I saw a spongbob episode. In it, spongebob used subliminal messeges to make gary take a bath. So I was interested in subliminal messeges ever since. So the next day, and 5:00 or something, I went online searching subliminal stuff. So I clicked on WWW. starterupsteve.com/swf/subliminal.html That was the stupidest thing I've ever done. Ever since, I am cautius of everything I go on, even this page! I'm afraid that when I'm typing this, something will pop up. I am really tymid ever since last year.

The maze: One winter day last yea in 2005, there was a 90 minute delay for school do to snow. I went to my friends house. He wated me to try a maze for the fact that "I have better hand-eye cordination than him." And I probebly do. By the way everyone was laughing, I knew that it was a screamer. But for another reason, I still tryed it. I don't know why. But I still managed to get to the exorcist face. That scared my bad. Everyone was on the floor laughing. Very embaressing.

Snow man screamer: The same winter, I went to a large-hilly park to sled. He wanted me to see a shake a snowman game. So we went back to my house to see it. But I backed away, because it was really suspicious. I saw it, expecting an exorcist face, but it was the stupid snow man face. But with a really loud pierecing scream.
