[edit] Screen Resolution
What is the resolution of the black and white compact Macintoshes? Some places list them at 512 x 342 and others as 512 x 384. Does anyone have a definitive source? —204.42.21.250 06:01, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- The B&W Macs all started with 9" 512x342 resolution. The Color Classic was the first 9" display area to introduce 512x384 designed to be compatible with the LC RGB monitor support. There seem to be a number of typos in various Apple documents which might lead to the misinformation as well. Technically speaking the display area is 370 lines with 28 lines reserved for vertical blanking. Together with the introduction of the 384 standard might have contributed to the general misunderstanding. With the Mac II introducing 640x480 resolution and video cards for SE & SE/30 video expansion capable of greater abilities (The SE/30 has more or less the same video hardware as the Mac II though only B&W display capabilities), somewhere along the line even Apple seems to have redrawn the bottom resolution supported to match that of the LC line introduced in the early 90s ignoring everything prior as evidenced by their video resolution tables on their Support specifications database. When even the manufacturer itself gets it wrong, that kind of information is highly likely to be widely disseminated. So, all 9" B&W CRT Macs natively support a single resolution of 512x342 and nothing else. This does not include the Macintosh XL (which should not really be included as a Compact Mac) and has its own video standard. --Woodwynlane 02:46, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

are they based on this design? Helpsloose (talk) 23:11, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Macintosh XL
I don't think the Macintosh XL actually belongs on the Compact Mac page any more than the Mac TV, LC 500 series, iMac, etc. It's an all-in-one but that's about it and should probably be included on its own all-in-one page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Woodwynlane (talk • contribs) 01:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
