[edit] Unlikely Native to Puerto Rico
As Puerto Rico has been separated from the mainland for a very long time, and likely for a time much longer than the speciation of squirrel monkeys, is it really plausible that they are native to Puerto Rico? Some further digging into references will likely turn up the fact that they are an introduced species from the mainland, maybe as long ago as the indigenous era, or during Spanish colonial times.
