Talk:Comet assay

Why comet ?
The assay or the name?
The assay is a senstive method to measure DNA damage.
The name comes from the shape of the single cell nucleoid after lysis and electrophoresis. Supercoiled DNA strands when damaged become more "relaxed", therefore travelling as negatively charged strands toward the anode. The more damage, the more DNA is in the "tail of the comet".
A CCD is not a close capture device, but a charged-coupled device. Furthermore, degrees centigrade are not written as OC in superscript, I´ve changed that throughout the article.
This article should be called Single Cel Gel Electrophoresis and "comet assay" should redirect here. Comet assay is the assay's "pet name". Hrodrik (talk) 19:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
