Talk:Come

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'CUM' Is also slang on the common private chat room 'MSN' meaning (in a non-sexual meaning) come. It is just a shortend form of 'come'. You know like: hey bbz wanna cum to the movies wiv me? thrs dis gr8 film i heard bout! thrs aload of us goin, u shud cum! There you go! 193.131.186.150 13:17, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Normally if you are British. I'll make a note that it is the American English spelling. Let's not have an edit war about this };-D Cimon Avaro on a pogostick 13:33, Oct 31, 2003 (UTC)
I think it's originally a US English term that has been imported into British English. However I don't think I can do research on this topic from work ;) Secretlondon 13:43, Oct 31, 2003 (UTC)
I was talking to some professors at Cambridge University about the subject when I was there, and they say that it the term comes from "come to orgasm", I forget where it was that that phrase was popularised. They say that it got deformed to 'cum' only very recently, by those who didn't understand that it SHOULD be spelt "come", and it just caught on. I'm not sure how true any of that was, but it's what they told me. --Oppolo 17:45, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

It seems to me ... unfortunate, let us say, that nearly the entirety of the article on a pretty basic (not to say seminal) concept in life is on the vulgar meaning -- there's almost no mention of the non-sexual sense(s) of coming. --Calieber 15:48, Oct 31, 2003 (UTC)

Also - none of the pages that link to it are linking that that meaning. They seem to be referring to an old band. 193.131.186.150 15:49, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

I guess that when some people (above?) hear the word coming, come or cum that sex isn't the first thing that comes to mind. In fact when they are having sex I bet they say "oh baby, I am at the early stages of ejaculation! Yes, here it is!". Puh lease, anyone that puts "cum" or "come" into a search engine will either be well aware of it's sexual connection or actually be LOOKING for it's sexual connection. In fact, if they DIDN'T know about the sexual connection then they should probably be educated on this fact, in case they shout out (innocently) to their girlfriends "oh baby, I'm coming!" in front of his mother in law. And even his mother in law, at the age of 67, knows the sexual connection so she cringes for his blunder. Should also link to the "official" meaning of course! I mean is this an encyclopedia or dictionary? Or both? Damn, a blowfly just came into my kleenex box, I can feel the bee cumming into my ear... oh wait, that's right. I know what come means, so I don't have to sound STUPID!

What do you mean? I don't get you at all. Is this what the world has gone to? "Puh-lease". Many people think "come" means:

To move from further away to nearer to.

(although wikt:come lists 2. as "to orgasm", but that's slang.) Is this what the world has... come to? I think you need to come back to reality (come emphasized for you to see the actual meaning).B|C|ube| 22:46, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
