The Commonwealth realms Portal

A Commonwealth realm is any one of 16 sovereign states within, but distinguished from, the Commonwealth of Nations with Elizabeth II as their respective monarch. These countries, with a combined area totalling 18.8 million km² (excluding Antarctic claims), and with a combined population of 131 million, are independent kingdoms in personal union, with the one sovereign being separately and equally monarch of each state. While the term Dominion has never been officially revoked, it has been replaced by use of the word realm, beginning in the 1950s, so as to reflect the relationship of equality amongst all 16 countries.

Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is the queen regnant of sixteen independent states and their overseas territories and dependencies. She holds each crown and title separately and equally. She ascended the thrones of seven countries in February 1952 on the death of her father King George VI. In theory her powers are vast; in practice (and in accordance with convention) she herself never intervenes in political matters. She is known to take an active behind-the-scenes interest in the affairs of state, meeting regularly to establish a working relationship with her government ministers.
