Compeat Restaurant Management Systems is a privately-held software company specializing in back office software for the restaurant industry. Their major product, Compeat Back Office, is an integrated inventory and accounting back office system that includes standard back office inventory features (similar to that of QuickBooks), and restaurant-specific features for inventory management.

Harry G. Barkerding first created a restaurant back office system in 1988 for Copeland's of New Orleans.[1] After several years with Ruth's Chris Steak House as its first Dir. of IT and establishing an accounting system there and the industry's first electronic gift card system, Harry took his knowledge of restaurant back office systems, accounting, and software engineering to form his own company in 2000. Compeat was based in New Orleans from its inception until 2005.
In August of 2005 the company evacuated from the path of Hurricane Katrina, a day before the storm devastated their New Orleans offices. Office equipment and personnel were temporarily housed by one of their customers, Dave & Busters, in Dallas Texas. Like many New Orleans businesses, Compeat chose not to return to the city due to changes in the labor pool and the infrastructure problems left by the storm (See Effect of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans). In February 2006, Compeat moved their permanent offices to Austin, TX.[2]

[edit] Compeat Back Office Manager
The Compeat Back Office Manager is a back office system that seamlessly integrates inventory and accounting. The software interfaces with point of sale (POS) systems to poll sales data.[3] Inventory is tied to invoices and sales, allowing inventory depletion to be monitored in real-time. In addition to the restaurant-specific accounting functions, Compeat software also provides standard accounting features, such as accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliation, and financial reporting.
[edit] Compeat Payroll Manager
Compeat Payroll Manager, tracks employee data such as vacation time, wages, taxes, and tips. The software interfaces with POS systems to poll time and attendance and sales and tips information. From the POS data, paychecks and tax reports can be generated. The software provides features specific to the restaurant industry not typically found in other payroll software products.
