Compatil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Compatil is the name of a large typeface family consisting of four variants: Linotype Compatil Exquisit, Linotype Compatil Fact, Linotype Compatil Letter, and Linotype Compatil Text, each of which has 16 weights.
[edit] History
Development of the Compatil typefaces took place from 1999 to 2001 at Linotype Library GmbH. There were several type designers and type experts involved in developing Compatil, including Olaf Leu, Reinhard Haus, Silja Bilz and Erik Faulhaber. In 2005, the typeface families of Compatil were extended by true cursive typefaces.
[edit] Properties
In addition to having a good legibility, the typefaces of Compatil were designed to have numbers suited for tables of figures. The different typefaces are compatible with each other concerning the width of corresponding characters (thus Compatil). This is an important feature for designers of documents who can easily use e.g. Compatil Text for a document and - if needed by the customer - replace it by e.g. Compatil Fact without having to reformat the document. In this Compatil behaves similar as e.g. the typeface family group of Generis.
The typeface is used in printing newspapers and financial reports.
