Community of Mindful Living
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Community of Mindful Living (CML) was established in Berkeley, California in 1983 and incorporated in 1990 in California as a nonprofit religious organization (Church). CML provides support for individuals and meditation groups worldwide who wish to practice in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. CML assists with the organization of retreats offered by Thich Nhat Hanh and lay teachers in the United States and Canada. In December, 1999, CML legally became a "Doing Business As" (DBA) arm of the Unified Buddhist Church. The Unified Buddhist Church was established by Thich Nhat Hanh and others in Vietnam in the 1960's and in the United States in 1997. The Unified Buddhist Church is the legally recognized governance body for Plum Village in France; for Blue Cliff Monastery in Pine Bush, New York; and, since March, 1999, for the Community of Mindful Living, Parallax Press, and Deer Park Monastery in California.
The Mindfulness Bell magazine is published by CML three times a year and contains Dharma Talks by Thich Nhat Hanh, articles by members of the Order of Interbeing, both monastic and lay, and publishes announcements of retreats, activities, and other items of interest.
