Communist Party of Aotearoa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Communist Party of Aotearoa is a Maoist political party which formed in 1993 as a split from the Communist Party of New Zealand, which had formerly been Maoist, but was then drifting towards Trotskyism. It has no publicly known members, preferring instead to operate clandestinely through a number of front groups such as the Radical Society at Victoria University in Wellington.
Since the mid-90s the CPA has been in merger negotiations with another Maoist split from the old CPNZ, the Organisation for Marxist Unity (OMU). No merger has yet taken place, however since 2002 the CPA appears to have suspended production of its paper Red Flag in favour of the OMU journal Struggle.
