The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2007 was the twentieth Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Nations. It was held in Kampala, Uganda, between 23 November and 25 November 2007, and hosted by President Yoweri Museveni.
The CHOGM saw the appointment of a new Commonwealth Secretary-General, to replace New Zealander Don McKinnon, who had been Secretary-General since 1999. The two contenders were Kamalesh Sharma of India, who was appointed, and Michael Frendo of Malta.[1]
It also saw the completion of a review of the Commonwealth's membership criteria, launched at the 2005 CHOGM in Valletta, with the publication of the report of the Committee on Commonwealth Membership. It had already been announced that no new members would be admitted until the 2009 CHOGM.[2]
[edit] Somaliland delegation in attendance
This meeting was also notable, as a delegation led by the current President of Somaliland, Dahir Riyale Kahin, was invited to the meeting.[citation needed] It could be a good sign for the case for the full recognotion of Somaliland and its admittance into the Commonwealth.[citation needed]
