Limanda limanda (Linnaeus, 1758) |
The common dab is an edible flatfish in the genus Limanda. Like other flatfishes, it has both eyes on the same side of the head. It is usually under 30 cm long and under 1 kg in weight. It lives on sandy seabeds. It is most common in the North Sea. The common dab is often mistaken for a young olive flounder. You can identify them by these standards: a common dab is light brown, yet an olive flounder is darker in coloration. The common dab is 19.5" long. Olive flounders are 2.6' long.
