The Common Ground Fellowship is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It was established in 2004 by philanthropist Kit Thomas and interfaith minister, Rev. Andrea Waters, "to provide a nexus where people of diverse world views, religions and cultures can learn from each other and cultivate a deeper understanding of the sacredness and interconnectedness of all life."
The stated purpose of the Common Ground Fellowship is "to explore and celebrate the underlying universal spiritual principals that are at the core of the world's diverse religions, philosophies and wisdom teachings, and to nurture new models of being together in community based on unconditional love and a sense of social responsibility as global citizens."
Common Ground's programs which include a monthly interfaith Sacred Space Celebration, a book circle, and a film discussion group, are designed to "support personal and social transformation, and to build bridges of understanding and goodwill between people of different cultures and faith-traditions."
The Common Ground Fellowship is not based on any particular religion, spiritual teacher or teaching, but rather provides an open forum for "the richness of community wisdom to be called forth and celebrated." Their motto is "Whatever the question, Love is the answer." Membership is self-defining and there are no membership fees. According to its by-laws, the organization is collectively governed by a Stewardship Council of twenty representatives who are chosen by the community through open elections.
In 2005, the Common Ground Fellowship established an interfaith community choir comprised of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and members of various other religions and cultures. The Common Ground Choir performs "songs with a universal message of peace and the possibility of a less divided and more loving world."[1]
