[edit] Miscellaneous
- The song "Close but no Cigar" on "Weird Al" Yankovic's album Straight Outta Lynwood (2006) is a parody of Cake's musical style. Although not a parody of any one song in particular, it seems to be inspired by "Short Skirt/Long Jacket". "Close but no Cigar" is about a man who is very demanding when it comes to women, evidenced by him dumping his date for silly reasons. The song copies some key musical elements such as a funky bassline, trumpets and cowbells, vibraslap, and the background "choir". Moreover, the trumpet line is nearly identical to "Love You Madly."
- The song "Comfort Eagle" was included in the original soundtrack for the film Shallow Hal, starring Jack Black.
- The song "Comfort Eagle" was slated to be the album's second single, but its release was cancelled after 9/11 due to its lyrics mentioning airplanes and stepping from ledges. "Love You Madly" was instead released as the second single.
- The song "Shadow Stabbing" was included in the original soundtrack for the film Orange County, starring Colin Hanks and Jack Black.
- The song "Arco Arena" was directly sampled in the song "Guns and Roses" off Jay-Z's album The Blueprint 2.
- Although the recording of "Arco Arena" on the album is an instrumental, a longer version of the song with vocals exists and was released as a promo single in 2001.
- The song "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" was used in the film Waitress starring Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion. The song was also used as the theme song for the 2007 NBC series Chuck.
- The song "Love You Madly" is featured in the 2008 film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
