[edit] History

[edit] Formation

The first material LaPlegua wrote were a few powernoise/techno crossover tracks under the moniker DRIVE. The band name was later changed to Combichrist before the debut album, The Joy Of Gunz was released on the German record label Out of Line. The name Combichrist originates from a hardcore fanzine LaPlegua made during the late 90s, with JR Ewing guitarist Håkon Mella. A few years after the band's conception, LaPlegua departed Norway for the United States, which is now the current homebase for Combichrist and his other projects, Scandy and Panzer AG.

[edit] Commercial success

In 2003 Combichrist released the LP The Joy of Gunz. On Halloween 2003 the limited edition EP Kiss The Blade was released, and sold out in weeks. In 2004, The second EP, Sex, Drogen Und Industrial, spent 7 weeks at number one in the DAC charts. The same time Sex, Drogen Und Industrial was released, a limited edition white-vinyl 12" for Blut Royale was produced, and sold out quickly. 2005 saw the release of Everybody Hates You and it was at this time that the band began labeling their music as "Techno Body Music" or TBM. The band released a song called "This is TBM" on the Out-of-Line compilation Techno Body Music volume 1. The release of Get Your Body Beat in 2006 turned out to be a commercial breakout for the band. In 2007 What the Fuck Is Wrong with You People? was released, becoming a best seller for both Metropolis and Out of Line records. LaPlegua is currently working on new material.

[edit] Videography

As of June 2007, the band has recorded four promo videos.

  • The first, Blut Royale (from the album Everybody Hates You) directed by Sandra Jensen, was completed in 2005, but release was delayed until 2007. The reason for the delay is currently unknown, but a seemingly rough-cut 'first version' of the video was posted on June 1st on Youtube by the director.
  • The second was for Get Your Body Beat (first heard on the 'Get Your Body Beat' single and later the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album,) was directed by Agata Alexander and features scenes from the upcoming film The Gene Generation from director Pearry Teo. This video may be viewed on YouTube.com as well as the band's official website.
  • The third video is for the track Electrohead from the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album. The band posted a bulletin on their website and myspace, "We will be shooting a video for “Electrohead” on Friday February 2, in Los Angeles, at Das Bunker. If you want to be a part of the video, dress hot or "crazy", and show up early. We expect to see all of the So Cal CC Army out for this. Doors open at 10pm." However, after reviewing the material shot during the performance, the footage was found too dark to use due to the venues poor lighting. The band then opted to re-shoot the live video portion in North Carolina. 'Electrohead' was officially released on June 10th 2007 via Myspace video.
  • On May 7th 2007 LaPlegua posted the band's new video Deathbed (from the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album,) on his livejournal and on YouTube.com. This time the video was filmed and directed by LaPlegua with help from Agata Alexander who also directed the 'Get Your Body Beat' video.
  • The fourth video is for the track Fuck That Shit from the album "What the Fuck is Wrong With You People?" The video was animated and directed entirely by Brandon Duncan of corporatedemon.com. After viewing Duncan's online portfolio, LaPlegua quickly asked Duncan to animate the video. The video was initially posted through YouTube on the official Combichrist MySpace page, but a much higher quality version has since been posted at http://corporatedemon.com/12/09/2007/combichrist-fk-that-st/.
