Comanche series

Comanche is a series of simulation games published by NovaLogic. The goal of each of these games is to fly military missions in a Comanche helicopter. It was the first commercial flight simulation based on voxel technology via the company's proprietary Voxel Space engine (written entirely in assembly language). This rendering technique allowed for much more detailed and realistic terrains compared to simulations based on vector graphics at that time.
Throughout the years, several games have been published:
- Comanche was the original game, and was followed by a number of expansion packs that were rolled up into a subsequent release called:
- Comanche Maximum Overkill (1992)
- Werewolf vs Commanche (Comanche 2) (1995)
- Comanche 3 (1997)
- Comanche Mac (1995)
- Comanche Gold (1998) - XVGA capable, possibly higher.
- Comanche 4 (2001)
A Comanche game was also in development for the Super Nintendo using the Super FX 2 chip, but was eventually cancelled.
[edit] Legacy
Comanche 4 is the last simulation in the Novalogic series based on the cancelled RAH-66 Comanche Advanced Stealth Multi-Role helicopter. The campaigns are based in the Balkans, Philippines, Europe and Delta Force support. Hopes for a 5th Comanche game in the series have faded because of the sudden cancellation of the US Army Program.
