[edit] Naming convention
This category is rather messy. I think a much better standard (well, there isn't a standard present...) would be for example . It should have the most common name of the composer. In other words, the name of that composer's article. Also, "Compositions by [name]" is more precise than "[Name] compositions". Thoughts? — Pladask 12:13, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- When you say "messy", are you referring to the category, or just the naming convention? If it is in regards to naming, I agree, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. --bleh fu talk fu 13:49, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

- Yes, I'm talking about the naming convention. This seems to be a job for a bot. :-) — Pladask 14:51, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Either way is fine with me. There's already Category:Compositions by Claude Debussy but I actually wrote it that way on accident. :) Just make sure if you add it to articles to sort them in a uniform way (ie ). The downside is that editors will have to add those lengthy category/sort tag on all the composition articles. I'm guessing that's why the current "[last name] compositions" convention was used.--Sketchee 14:10, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

- Hmm, you're right about that. I don't assume there will be any big protests, though, as editors are already used to that from biographical articles. — Pladask 14:51, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC) Hey, on second thought, you're not right about that. ;-) It only applies to the composer categories themselves. (That is, in Category:Compositions by Frédéric Chopin). This should be acceptable for everyone. :-) — Pladask 16:42, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

- Oh yeah, that's true. It'll only have to be done once on the category then. :) Go for it. -You may also want to discuss this adding these composition categories to Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music-Sketchee 21:37, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

- FWIW, I completely concur with changing the category names here for consistency... yikes, what a mess! Mindspillage (spill yours?) 04:31, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I posted an entrance at Bot requests a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten an answer yet. I suppose this has to be done manually. — Pladask 18:24, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)
- Oy, I just stumbled on this. A mess indeed! Not sure I can start fixing them right now ... Antandrus 03:17, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

I created the new categories and moved all the articles. The old categories have been nominated at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion for deletion. Gdr 23:02, 2005 May 17 (UTC)

- Will there still be sub-categories to compositions by composer? In particular "Operas by Firstname Lastname", as in Category:Operas by Richard Wagner. This sub-category works well, fitting into both Category:Compositions by Richard Wagner and Category:Operas by composer. --DrG 04:23, 2005 May 27 (UTC)
