COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is an institution for higher education in Pakistan. It comes under the umbrella of Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (Asia) or COMSATS, an international organization with a wide range of interests and facilities.

Currently CIIT imparts education to over 10000 students nationwide. CIIT attained the status of degree awarding institute vide the Presidential Ordinance No. XXXVIII issued on 12th August, 2000.

CIIT is ranked at 8th[1] number in the Engineering discipline according to the HEC ranking issued in 2008.

The Federal Cabinet of Pakistan charter for COMSATS University[2] on Thursday, October 05, 2006 , transformed/upgraded COMSATS Institute of Information Technology into a university. The charter for COMSATS university is in line with the Model University Ordinance 2002 and would enable the university to open new departments and faculties.

CIIT has currently six campuses around Pakistan equipped with modern facilities for the students and the faculty:

CIIT Gujrat is in the phase of construction. While the following Campuses have been approved by the federal government:

  • Vehari (Punjab)
  • Larkana (Sindh)
  • Quetta (Baluchistan)

The following campuses are envisaged by the CIIT:

  • Karachi
  • Two campuses in Rural Sindh

In coming years, CIIT is expected to receive a significant number of scholars (Ph.D) who are currently studying in developed countries on university scholarships. CIIT also offerers MS program leading to Ph. D.
