[edit] Recom

Recom Research in Communications is an independent global market research agency specialising in the communication industries, with its headquarters in west London (UK) and international offices in Vienna, New York and Beijing.

[edit] Business specialisation

Recom markets itself as a “niche” agency, and specialises in telecoms, ICT, media and entertainment, with considerable expertise where these sectors converge. In this way, they provide their clients with insights into the end-user perspective.

Recom has been successful in attracting and retaining leading players in communications. Their clients include Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Nortel.

[edit] Global reach

Through its close partnership with trusted vendors, Recom can conduct market research in all parts of the world. Recom provides services such as branding evaluation and tracking]], market segmentation, competitive intelligence, product development and testing, customer satisfaction, pricing and market evaluation] using a wide range of methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative.

[edit] Recom's appeal

One of Recom’s key business philosophies is that research findings cannot be viewed in isolation, but need to be seen in the context of global developments. They manage a worldwide social and economic tracker that studies people’s buying habits and pinpoints early signs of changes in people’s values and behaviour, which enable their clients to view research findings in the light of emerging global trends.

Their clients say Recom can identify peripheral issues that are often invisible at the outset, but can have a profound effect on a client’s business. In this way they provide not only the necessary focus, but also a lateral view of the findings, by considering what’s going on outside the industry sector.

[edit] Recom's own studies

As well as conducting research for clients, Recom carries out its own studies, to monitor changes in the communications market. For instance, they produce Spot Checks on various types of communications devices such as multi-function mobile phones to keep track of end-user viewpoints, from both business and consumer viewpoints. Another example is their panel of more than 2,000 software developers that evaluates the changing preferences of the wireless community.

[edit] History

Recom was founded by Managing Director Ria Barnabas in 1996. Before this, Ria spent more than ten years in strategic marketing and market research, providing her with wide knowledge of the telecoms industry. She was Communications Director at Harris Research (Taylor Nelson Sofres) and Head of the Research and Market Analysis Division for Europe and Middle East at Motorola.

During this time, as a buyer of market research for a major telecommunications provider, Ria realised that research companies often failed to understand her industry’s issues. She identified a niche for a market research agency specialising in fast-moving telecommunications, ICT and e-business. This led to her decision to set up Recom Research in Communications.
