Talk:Collatz conjecture/Comments
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the course of investigating the number of steps it takes various integers to converge to 1 , I was extremely surprised by some results. I was counting as steps each iteration of (3x+1)/2^n. My start values were of the form 2^k+c. For different values of c, I printed out the counts for k = 1 to 100. Certain counts occurred much more frequently than others. At low values of k , counts of 32, 44, and 56 appeared more often than I expected. At high values of k the predominance of certain counts was even more marked and the counts 109, 162, 191 and 210 almost excluded other values over consecutive values of k. Could anyone confirm these results and, if confirmed, give a reason ?Mugbuff (talk) 03:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
