This is not an official U.S. military decoration.
Congress included language in the Fiscal Year 2002 National Defense Authorization Act authorizing the Secretary of Defense to consider issuance of a Cold War Service Medal. However, the Secretary of Defense decided not to issue a Cold War Service Medal. A previous Secretary of Defense authorized issuance of a Cold War Recognition Certificate to recognize all service members and federal civilian employees who faithfully served the United States during the Cold War era, which is available by application [1].
Cold War commemorative medals have been designed and manufactured by a military memoribilia companies, from which it can be purchased. However, there is no Cold War Medal issued by National Personnel Records Center or the Service awards branches.
