Columbus Alternative High School is a public high school located on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. It is a part of the Columbus City Schools district. The school is a magnet school for college-bound students in Columbus, with both AP and IB programs. The school fields no athletic teams (Students can compete for athletic teams at their "home" high school); it does, however, field accomplished chess and In The Know teams. The school is often referred to by its abbreviation, CAHS (pronounced like "cause".)

[edit] Academics
CAHS works on a block schedule, with its students taking classes in four longer "blocks", as opposed to eight shorter "periods" as is common elsewhere in the CCS district. Its students are generally expected to take AP or IB courses in the course of their four years at CAHS, with many students electing to take the AP European History course in their sophomore year.
CAHS offers math courses ranging from Algebra I to AP Calculus BC, and students completing these courses have the option of taking additional courses at Ohio State University through the school's Post-Secondary program. Science courses are offered ranging from Physical Science to AP Biology and AP Chemistry.
CAHS students begin an internship program their sophomore year. The program, which fulfills the community-service requirements of the district and is designed to provide "real world" experience, allows students to select an internship host, like a local business or charity. Students then report to that host on Wednesdays instead of coming to CAHS, with their work for the day to be determined by their internship.
[edit] National ranking

Columbus Alternative was awarded the Silver Medal in Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report. "Columbus Alternative High School: Best High Schools".
