Columbus, New Jersey

Columbus is an unincorporated area within Mansfield Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 08022.
As of the United States Census, 2000, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) 08022 was 5,735.[1]
Columbus was first called Encroaching Corners because of a dispute over land. The name was changed to Black Horse after a local tavern. Black Horse was the community's name during the Revolutionary War. After the tavern's name was changed to Columbus, the name of the surrounding community was also changed accordingly.[2]
Steamboat captain Henry Miller Shreve was born about three miles east of Columbus at "Mount Pleasant", the Shreve family homestead.
