Sonny "Dick" Fisher graduated from Columbiana High School in the 1930s. After graduation he went to The Ohio State University, where he was a stand out on both the football and basketball teams. In 1940, Fisher led the Big Ten Conference in scoring on the basketball court, and in rushing on the football field. While in Columbus, a reporter dubbed him the "Columbiana Clipper". After this, the Columbiana athletic teams, which previously had no nickname or mascot, took on the name "Columbiana Clippers", their mascot is the Boeing 314.
