Columbia High School (New York)

Columbia High School is a public high school located on Luther Road in East Greenbush, New York, USA. It is the only high school for the East Greenbush Central School District and educates around 1,500 students in grades 9-12.[1]
The current principal is John P. Sawchuk.

Jon Romano, then 16, went to Columbia High on February 9, 2004 and fired three rounds with a 12-gauge shotgun. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, a sentence upheld on appeal.[2]
Henry Kolakoski, who taught social studies at Columbia High for more than 30 years, surrendered his teaching license on June 30, 2007 after allegations that he sexually molested a student in the early 1980s.[3]
Kirk Hellwig, then a social studies teacher, was sentenced to a year in jail for having oral sex with a 16-year-old male student in a classroom during hours in August 2007.[4][5]

Sarah S. Mousa took first place in the 2005 American Physiological Society Awards for excellence in physiological research for her project entitled "Implications of Nicotine’s Pro-angiogenesis Activity: the Good and the Bad".[6] Mousa was also a regional runner-up of the 2005-06 Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science & Technology with her paper "Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Nicotine’s Pro-Angiogenesis Activity and Its Potential Impact on Disease Processes".[7]
