Columbarium spiralis is a species of deepwater sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Columbariidae, the pagoda shells. This genus is however usually placed in the family Turbinellidae.

(It is worth noting that Gastropod taxonomy in general is currently very much in flux and is under active professional revision. Experts disagree about the exact placement of some families.)

This species is endemic to islands off the east coast of Northland in New Zealand.

This pagoda snail lives at depths of between 475 and 550 m.

[edit] Shell descrption

The shell is large, with a broad, vertically compressed spire, and a long almost straight siphonal canal, which is two thirds the total height of the shell. The peripheral flange is sculptured with broad-based pointed spines, 12 to 14 per whorl.

The shell height is up to 105 mm, and width up to 29 mm.
