[edit] School organisation

The school takes girls aged 10 - 18 (Years 6 - 13) But due to the up coming academy status they plan to only teach year 7 and up from September 08. The current Head Mistress (2006) is Mrs Lesley Jones. The school motto is 'We cherish the past but look to the future', and 'Go and do thou likewise'(Do to others as you would be done by them), taken from the biblical story of the Good Samaritan. It is a multi-faith school that operates around the system that all are equal.

Recently it has become the first green school in Bristol, with an eco-bronze medal awarded for its achievements in reducing the ecological footprint the school makes on the environment. It was also the first school in Bristol to make its vending machines entirely healthy, a step towards gaining the bronze medal.

CGS has an emphasis on the Arts and sports, with teams of all ages regularly entering competitions and tournaments across the country in sports such as athletics, hockey, and netball. An annual exhibition of the girls' art work is also displayed at Bristol Guild.

The school has a strong language department, with the younger girls in Year Six studying Japanese and girls from Year Seven upwards studying two modern languages at least, including French and either Spanish, German, or Russian. The Sixth Form have a choice of studying Italian or Japanese, and trips overseas are frequent to expand the girls' speaking abilities. Recent trips have included a Barbados hockey tour and Eastern European History tour.

In July 2007 the School announced that they had reached agreement with the government to become an Academy from 2008, sponsored by the Society of Merchant Venturers.
