[edit] History

It underwent a $310.7 million major expansion in 2005. The expansion doubled its size adding 600,000 sq ft (56,000 m²) of space and a 5,200 seat concert hall, the Wells Fargo Theatre. The total area of the convention center is 1,200,000 square feet (111,000 m²). There is a huge 35,000 square feet (3,300 m²) ballroom and an attached 1,000 space parking garage.

The Hyatt Regency Denver, also finished in 2005, located at the CCC is in Denver's Top Ten tallest buildings with 38 floors for a height of 489 feet (149 m). Across Welton Street, on the historic registry, is the Denver Athletic Club hotel.

[edit] Location

The CCC is located between 14th Street and Speer Boulevard, and between Champa Street and Welton Street. Stout Street runs underneath the building, as does the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Light rail's Central Corridor.

There is a stop, Convention Center/Performing Arts, underneath the Convention Center. Currently the D, F and H lines run through this corridor's stop.

The CCC is linked by a pedestrian bridge across Champa Street to the Denver Performing Arts Complex with its nine theatres. It is across Welton Street from the Emily Griffith Opportunity School. The University of Colorado Denver is to the west across Speer Boulevard.

The convention center is central to all of the other downtown attractions including: the 16th Street Mall aka the Denver Pavillions with a United Artists movie multiplex, the Denver Nuggets' arena Pepsi Center, the Colorado Rockies' home Coors Field, Ocean Journey aquarium, Elitch Gardens amusement park, and the Centennial Gardens of the Denver Botanic Gardens.
