From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Colne Valley Museum is located within the Colne Valley in Golcar, West Yorkshire, England, not far from Huddersfield. The museum consists of three covereted 18th century weaver's cottages. The museum provides a good insite into what life was like for a weaver in the early 1850s. The museum includes a clog makers workshop, a loom chamber, a spinning room, a cropping room, a kitchen and living rooms.

[edit] History
The museum it self is a Grade II listed building and is housed in three of four cottages built in the 1840s by a family of independent cloth manufacturers, the Pearson's. The weavers' cottages, named 'Spring Rock' by James and Sally Pearson, were built into the steep hillside, having the traditional entrance for the lower rooms, like our modern front doors, and an entrance to the top floor at the rear of the cottages.
During the week, the museum is open for school visits for which the children are encouraged to dress in period clothing. Some weekends, the museum opens for demonstrations and exhibitions.
[edit] Location
The museum is located in the village of Golcar, which is easily found from the Huddersfield ring road by taking the westbound A62 (signed for Oldham), and after two miles taking the B6111.
