[edit] Bellinghausen Station
Bellinghausen Station is a Russian station. It normally houses around 25 people despite its maximum being 50. It has gained a reputation of being a trading post, with station members often willing to swap or sell pins, flags and clothing.
Russia set up Bellinghausen in 1968 on the nearly ice-free Fildes Peninsula at the island's southwestern tip. After a fuel tank farm was established the station became a major fuel depot for the Soviet Antarctic fishing fleet.
[edit] Wildlife
The local wildlife consists of Chinstrap penguins, Adelie penguins, Blue eyed shags, Southern giant pestrals and Antartic terns.
