College of West Africa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The College of West Africa is a Methodist high school in Monrovia, Liberia. The school was opened in 1839 (as the "Monrovia Seminary"), making it one of the oldest European-style schools in Africa. It has produced many of Liberia's leaders and includes among its alumni Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first woman elected as president in an African state, and Liberian Vice President Joseph Boakai. The College of West Africa's main building is named in memory of Melville B. Cox, a Methodist missionary who was a founder of the College. A historic stained glass window in the College's auditorium reads: "Though a thousand fall, let not Africa be given up". The school will be hosting it 16th Annual Reunion from May 23-26, 2008 on Memorial weekend in the State of Minnesota. The reunion is intended to celebrate the new College of West Africa and students, faculty members, well-wishers and love ones are expected from the 50 States in the USA to grace the occasion. The Alumni Association in the USA have played a pivotal role in resuscitating and revamping the school. The Alumni Association website is: http://www.cwa-foxes-den.com/
