The College of Nursing in medical college campus was started in the year 1972 attached to the University of Kerala. A pioneer institute for nursing education in Kerala and in most case in South East Asia. Another feat is the starting of Post Graduate programmes in Nursing in 1987. Currently the college has five areas of speciality training namely mental health nursing, medical surgical nursing, paediatric nursing, obstetrical and gynaecological nursing and community health nursing.
The salient feature of this college from its history is the admission of male candidates without any restriction on number of intake. Earlier days the intake of male candidates was fixed at 12.5 percentage of total strength of each batch.
