The College of Business is an academic college of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Its facilities are located in Zane Showker Hall on the southwestern part of the campus, the "Lake Area."

Each student majoring in one of the college's fields must take a core set of classes called the Bachelor of Business Administration Core. These classes are taken throughout the student's career culminating in a course called COB 300, which is a 12-credit integrated class where the student connects the fundamentals of business in four functional areas: management, marketing, operations, and finance. Students are separated into groups for the task of creating a business plan for a business they create. The grade on the business plan factors into the student's final grades in all four COB 300 courses.

The College also offers an MBA and a Master of Sciences in Accounting.[1]

[edit] Computer information systems and management science

The mission of the Computer Information Systems and Management Science program is to prepare students for careers designing, managing and re-engineering information systems in corporations and public agencies. The curriculum includes coursework in five broad areas to support that mission: information systems (IS) fundamentals, IS theory and practice, information technology, IS development, and IS deployment and management processes. In addition to stressing problem solving skills, the content of major courses is also designed to strengthen the students' written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills that are critical to success in the information systems field. Knowledge of, and adherence to, professional standards of conduct are stressed throughout the program. The department offers an ABET accredited BBA in computer information systems.

The College of Business received recent attention when it was ranked 35th for undergraduate programs in both public and private schools by Business Week in 2006.[2]

The College of Business is home to the Madison Investment Fund, a student managed investment fund. The top Value Equity Fund at the RISE Symposium in 2004, the Madison Investment Fund actively manages a portion of the universities endowment.[3]
