The College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE) is located at Pakistan Air Force Academy, Risalpur, NWFP, Pakistan, and is currently affiliated with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). It came into being after Independence, at a time when there was an acute shortage of Technical Maintenance Officers in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
In order to meet the immediate requirements of the Engineering Officers, a plan to establish an Aeronautical Engineering College was speedily implemented, and the CAE was initially opened at Korangi Creek in Karachi in 1965. In 1986, the College moved to Pakistan Air Force Academy at Risalpur.
The Aviation Cadets of Engineering Branch go through a system of education on the lines of United States Air Force Institute of Technology. They have 4 years training, after which they get their Bachelor of Engineering degree, in Aerospace or Avionics disciplines.
The CAE is known not only for its tough academic training but also for its well-designed leadership training programmes. Its graduates today lead most of the aerospace-related departments of PAF, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, PIA and other civilian sectors.
The College of Aeronautical Engineering was set up under USAF supervision in 1967. The initial set up was at PAF Base Korangi Creek. The college was shifted to PAF Academy Risalpur in 1986. Course Numbers G-1 to G-23 passed out from CAE at PAF Korangi while G-24 onwards have graduated from PAF Academy Risalpur. Pakistan Airforce has been considerably strengthened its position due to availability of high quality technical manpower made available through the college.College of Aeronautical Engineering is regarded as one of the best engineering colleges for aeronautical studies in the world and ranks first in Asia.
At CAE, the Aviation Cadets go through a system of education on the lines of United States Air Force Institute of Technology. The College is known not only for its excellent Academic training but also for its well-designed leadership training programmes. Its graduates today lead most of the aviation related departments of PAF, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, PIA and other civilian sectors.
Recently the PAF has discontinued it's postgraduate programme at CAE and has shifted it to Air University in Islamabad. Also the affiliation with NUST is being discontinued in the near future which will be taken up by Air University. This decision has badly effected the educational standard of CAE since all the experienced faculty members have been taken to Air University for teaching the postgraduate students who would join it's faculty in the future.
