The College Academy @ Broward Community College is a public high school in Broward County, Florida. The school is a college preparatory school at which the students spend their junior and senior years of high school working toward an Associate of Arts degree at Broward Community College. All Broward County public school students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are sent a letter in their sophomore year of high school notifying them of their eligibility to enroll in the College Academy. Of the students that apply, only the top so many students are accepted into the program.
The College Academy @ Broward Community College is a full-time, dual-enrollment collegiate high school program that is a partnership between BCC and the Broward County Public Schools. It offers motivated high school juniors and seniors the chance to finish their high school education and complete their first two years of college simultaneously.
The College Academy @ Broward Community College, in collaboration with students, parents, and Broward Community College, endeavors to provide an educational bridge from high school to college for accelerated students who wish to begin the pursuit of their goals through dual enrollment. The College Academy strives to enable students to achieve their academic and personal potentials and to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners. The program offers qualified students the opportunity to receive a college-ready diploma from the School Board of Broward County and an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from Broward Community College concurrently. It also provides the opportunity for students to qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program as a Florida Academic Scholar or a Florida Merit Scholar. As a College Academy student, all tuition and books are provided for all coursework at no cost to participants. Students earn credits by taking two college classes in the morning and three classes with The College Academy in the afternoon. Most of The College Academy classes are dual enrollment meaning they earn both high school and college credits. In other words, the freshman and sophomore years of college are free of charge.
