A College-Ready Academy
Stern MASS teachers provide a challenging curriculum intended to prepare students to succeed in a four-year college or university upon graduation. With a math and science focus, the students take four years of each subject in order to be prepared to major in these areas. All students take the required A-G course requirements to successfully apply to any University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU).
Targeting East Los Angeles
Located in the East Los Angeles community, Stern MASS provides parents with an alternative choice to the other large, public high schools in LAUSD. Stern MASS was opened to serve students who would have attended Garfield HS, Roosevelt HS, Lincoln HS, or Wilson HS.
School Location
For the 2007-2008 school year, Stern MASS will relocate onto the campus of CSULA. Stern MASS students will be in temporary classroom bungalows on Parking Lot 7 on the campus of CSULA. The architectural designs for the Stern MASS permanent facility are being completed, and the permanent facility will be located on Parking Lot 2.
Student Enrollment During the 2006-2007 school year, Stern MASS served approximately 200 9th grade students. The student demographics were approximately: Latino 98%, White 1%, Asian 1%. For the 2007-2008 school year, MASS will serve about 160 9th grade students and 160 10th grade students.
