Colin Russell (born January 21, 1961 in Liverpool, England) was a former professional footballer) who played as a striker for many teams after leaving his hometown club Liverpool.
Russell began his Career as a YTS player with Liverpool FC, before signing Professional terms at 18. Russell was amongst Roy Evans' Central League Champions side from 1979 to 1982 and frequently captained the side. His only taste of first team action came against Sunderland in 1981 replacing Howard Gayle in Liverpool's 1-0 defeat at the hands of their opponents. In 1982 with the emergence of David Hodgson as Kenny Dalglish's understudy, Russell was transferred to Huddersfield Town where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career. Further Moves to Stoke, Bournemouth & Scarborough followed before ending his Football League career with Wigan Athletic in 1988-1989 season. The following summer saw Russell drop into Non-League Football by re-joining former Liverpool team mate Alan Kennedy at Colne Dynamo's, a revolutionary team for it's day as the club was at the time the only Non-League side to offer a Full-Time lucrative contract to players on their Books. As the season got underway, Financial hardship soon hit the club, and eventually the club folded leaving Russell without a club.
Russell, at the age of 30 decided to call it a day and eventually re-trained himself as a PVC window maker. He set up his own firm in the early 90's and continued to pursue this business way into the noughties.
