[edit] Club career
A Northern Ireland international, Murdock started his career as a junior at Manchester United but had not reached the first team when he moved to Preston in May 1997, commanding a fee of £100,000. Murdock achieved more than 200 league and cup appearances while at Deepdale before moving to Scottish club Hibernian. During his time at Easter Road, he went from villain to hero when he scored the goal which knocked out Rangers in the CIS Cup Semi Final 2004.
Murdock joined Crewe in the latter part of 2004-05. He skippered the team and his form helped to steer them clear of relegation. In summer 2005, Murdock signed for Rotherham, where he brought experience to the centre of the Rotherham defence, making 43 league appearances in two seasons, scoring twice. At the end of the 2006-07 season he left Rotherham and, after a brief trial, signed a one-year contract with Shrewsbury. [1] He made 29 league appearances and scored two goals for the Shrews, but was released by new manager Paul Simpson on 29 April 2008.[2]
On 16 May 2008, Murdock signed a one-year deal with Accrington.[3]
[edit] International career
Murdock has 34 caps for his country, with one goal, a powerful header, coming in a 3-3 draw against Austria in 2004. He has since dropped down the order in the centre of defence with Aaron Hughes and Stephen Craigan now the first choice and younger plays such as Gareth McAuley, Michael Duff and Jonny Evans coming through as backup.
