[edit] History

In 1963, a group of families interested in having a catholic education for their boys, started talking with the Archbishop of San Juan, Monsignor Jaime Davila and Guillermo Mirandes for the creation of the school.

On September 2nd 1963 Hno. David Mediavilla and Hno. Silvio Salicrup, delegates for the Order’s Superiors, arrived to evaluate the possibilities of making these families’ desires a reality.

On November 11th 1963, the news of approval for the foundation of the school arrives. The school had its first settling in the residence of the Architect Jorge Ramirez de Arellano, in Calle J, Garden Hills.

In August 1964, Colegio Marista started its educational history as a boys only school, with 188 students for the first six grades. School population grew rapidly, accounting for 400 students in 1968. This growth seeded the construction of its new and actual facilities in Alturas de Torrimar, Guaynabo.

Today, Colegio Marista has excellent facilities that, along with its religious leaders, facultry and staff, provide education for 1500 boys and girls students. Their education is based on a constructivist and humanist curriculum, updated to meet the needs of current times. The Marist Brothers have a long rich tradition of excellent education around the world; locally, each year graduating students are accepted into the most prestigious colleges and universities in Puerto Rico and in the United States.

Being part of Colegio Marista is more than receiving an excellent education, it is being part of an intellectual and spiritual experience that will challenge the student and, by doing that, it will make him a better person in all the aspects of life. Maristas, name given to individuals that graduate from Colegio Marista, do not only go to achieve the highest levels of success in their professional field but they, also, are supporters and contribute to their communities.

[edit] School Mission

Colegio Marista’s mission is to promote in its students, an integral education based on the Christian vision of people. A person who is faithful, harmonic and integrated, main part of an academic, responsible, critic and creative education.

This mission is to be accomplished through a humanist and constructivist curriculum, developed in an environment of participation and cooperation between teachers, students, administrative personnel, parents and other members of the educational community; through a proper style, characterized by the pedagogy of the presence, the family spirit, the love of work and having Mary as model.
