Colegio Jefferson

The Unidad Educativa Colegio Jefferson was founded in May 1974 by Mrs. Silvia Alvarez de Saiden and her daughter Mrs. Silvia Saiden de Navarra, beginning its academic functions in September of the same year, in the Quinta "Tonterias", located in Plaza Yare, urbanizaciĆ³n San Roman, Caracas, with a small group of students in Pre-scholastic levels.

For that moment, the primary target was the integral formation of its students, offering the education of English as a second language.

From its foundation Colegio Jefferson has been registered in the Ministry of Education as a private establishment.

With running of the time a restlessness between the members of the Educative Community was growing, and is as well as it reaches an agreement in scholastic year 1985-1986 between the members of the Society of Parents and Representatives and the Board of directors of the institution, to give continuity to the studies of Primary school, arising therefore the creation of the levels from Basic to Diversified Cycle.

For the profit of this goal, the construction of a new building in 1987 was necessary, located in the urbanizaciĆ³n Colinas de Valle Arriba being inaugurated the 3 of October of 1988.

Colegio Jefferson currently holds about 1000 students from Nursery to the Senior Class. There are two classrooms per grade holding aproximately 25 to 30 students. The minimum Grade Point Average that a student that studies in Colegio Jefferson must maintain is 16 over 20.

Colegio Jefferson has two computer labs, one for Primary School and other one for High School. Each one holds about 15 to 20 computers.

The library has two floors, and it has about 500 books at all.

[edit] Extracurriculars

Colegio Jefferson has a soccer team with numerous divisions for boys of all ages and a volleyball team for girls of all ages. Also, the school attends to numerous Model United Nations held in Caracas such as: SAMUN (South American Model United Nations), CaMUN (Caracas Model United Nations), SIMUN (San Ignacio Model United Nations) and JMUN (Junior Model United Nations). Students attending these models do incredible jobs showing the hard work and preparation they have put into it.
